Dwarfs in rags and blood everywhere...
« on: June 17, 2013, 08:03:08 pm »

I have food, livestock, kitchens, hospitals, and lots of goods.  I know we have cloaks and togas and trousers and leggings - I see them in the 'Stock' lists.  But most of the Dwarfs are in rags and grumpy about it.  Also, there seems to be blood and bones all over the place.  When a Dwarf walks through a stream he leaves behind red water! Now, a lot of the wildlife has been wiped out or turned into food, so I don't see it getting worse - but what can I do about it?

I figure maybe I should take a few Dwarfs and have them do nothing but clean - which seems a tad of a waste but it might work.  But why are they not taking pants and shoes and stuff from the stockpiles?  Do I have to tell them something?

are you in a an evil biome? the one i embarked in had a rain that caused my dwarves to bleed from open sores.

as for the clothes... they should eventually discard the worn out and put on something new.

Thanks!

I started a whole series of job requests - I just bought a whole bunch of cloth and leather from some human traders and now mass-producing more togas, shoes, hats, coats, trousers, dresses.  So there should be tons of outfits for them to pick from when they finally start picking out new clothes.

I figured part of the blood problem. The bathhouse had blood EVERYWHERE!  When I examined it I realized it was from animals that had been hunted or butchered.  The Dwarfs were taking baths and washing the blood off - which ended up on the floor.  Some of the blood is from dingos which were wiped out years ago - hunters and warriors have been covered in it for YEARS!  The cats killing things and dragging them inside did not help either - just killed any cat not owned by somebody.

Dwarfs in rags and blood everywhere sounds like a pretty standard fortress  ;)
you forgot the part where they're worrying socks and/or cheese though...

for removing blood/mud/goo stains, i suggest smoothing and/or building floors...good luck cleaning the walls, but at least those stains wont spread?

Will smoothing floors work on floors that have already been built, smoothed, or engraved?  I know it removes tracks I don't like.
