No, it's a case of excellent management because their primary market is Japan. Handhelds are much, much more popular over there than they are here and home consoles are a lot less popular there than here because of reduced space in homes and the like. They're making good business decisions based on the demographic they aim to make the most money out of.

Western releases are only recently becoming a major part of profiteering because "oh hey, we can make money over there, too! Totally worth the porting costs."

At least, this is how I understand things.

Exactly what Square said when the Mana series got downgraded from consoles to the DS. Monster Hunter 5 will be released on smartphones at this rate.

Monster Hunter was originally on Playstation right? MH on PS4 would (probably) be incredible.
It was indeed, but IIRC there was a falling-out after P3rd and now Capcom has an exclusivity deal with Nintendo. I think. I only got on the MH wagon at 3U.
Yeah there was an issue regarding the PSP's online play capabilities which prevented the MHP3 from being localized, and both companies were so stubborn during that incident that it caused the switch. IIRC

Slippery slope and missing the whole point of "controls are a thing that exist." A Monster Hunter game was made for iOS a couple years ago - information here. Except nobody really bought it, compared to the main series games, and it was generally pretty terrible. Presumably they didn't make enough money for it to be worth it, hence the fact that there hasn't been another in the three and a half years or so since it was released.

Okay, the game's not out yet so I'm not going to make a new topic about it. However, I was wondering if anyone had a code for the US version of Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate. The reason I ask is because a friend of mine got some codes but they're only for the PAL version.

I also just learned that They're releasing a special edition N3dsXL (except it says "4 Ultimate" instead of "4G", kinda wish there were no text at all... but oh well). I told myself that I wouldn't buy an N3dsXL... unless they did this... it's like they know what I want or something.

I just hope I don't have to get it at Gamestop...

Sure, I'll PM you one. Also, I think the special edition is only orderable from the Gamestop website.

Also confirmed release date February 13. Maybe I'll make a thread or something.

Madness! I was told it would be sometime in March. I'll consider it a (sort of) birthday present then.

They have pretty bad business practices, and the one time I pre-ordered something from them (LittleBIGPlanet) I did not receive the promotional code that was supposed to be given to me. Plus I just miss the days of EB Games =<
If you go to a Gamestop and they don't try to sell you anything you don't want you can be pretty much guaranteed those people won't be employed for long.

So I'm playing the demo now and some of the minor details and changes are really nice (I can turn while sheathing my lance!?). Also managed to take out the Gore Magala with 35 seconds left. Managed to jump on its head (accidentally) and stabbed it until it fell over, which felt pretty damn awesome. Also tried out the charge blade and they made a good choice giving you a bracydios one, making things explode as you unload charged attacks is utterly satisfying.

Trying to play online (for the 5 or so minutes I've tried) has basically led to clicking every room and seeing :This room is passworded!" You would think there would be an icon indicating such right on the room. Most rooms that don't have passwords give an error when trying to join, and most rooms only have 1 person in them (which is strange because there can be 10 rooms with 1 person each, where it would make more sense for them to join other rooms to fill them up...)

I don't suppose there's any mention Monster Hunter 4 Wii U edition anywhere?

Nope, nowhere, unfortunately. Ispil nailed it.

Gamestop is okay in my opinion, except for the exorbitant shipping prices for the exclusive bundle. Seriously, 17 bucks? I guess Amazon has spoiled me when it comes to online retail.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to put a box inside a box?
Plus, if I was reading correctly, it doesn't even come with the charging cable?

... Fuck. There's a MH4G N3DS?

God, fucking. Dammit. I really, really didn't want to have to buy a new 3ds. But I might have to. I might.

If it was just a New 3ds I wouldn't have, but it's an XL. Honestly I have no idea why anyone would wanna touch a 3ds after using an XL

IIRC no New 3DS models do. Which is still really weird.

Well I knew that too, to be honest if it wasn't an XL odds are I wouldn't be able to use it anyway. I'm too big for the silly sized normal 3ds. It cramps my hands up.

Dang multiple systems nonsense trying to eat up my money. I WON'T FALL FOR IT.

I'm just going to wait for Monster Hunter Online (which I think is coming to 'Merica) and do all my hunting on PC.
