Yeah, Freedom Unite has the largest variety of monsters, including 12 (by my count) Elder Dragons. Well, excluding Frontier and 4/4U which we don't have yet.

It's a great game and quite the experience if you can handle clumsier controls, less polish, and stranger hitboxes as compared to the new games. There's also a bigger wealth of information like formulas, weapon trees, drop rates, hitzones, etc. if you care about those.

Variety is good!

And I probably wouldn't notice differences in anything like controls or hitboxes because I've never played any MH games so I've nothing to compare it to. And polish a good game does not make, assuming you just mean graphic-wise, in which case I wouldn't care. And of course I don't mind learning in order to play a game proper like. Its more fun that way imho!! :D As long as its compelling, and it is.

I'm a big fan of Monster Rancher. Unrelated when it comes to gameplay of course, but I like cool monsters. Especially when they brawl.

Playing Monster Hunter puts me in a weird self perpetuating cycle.

Farm items> Get bored> Try other weapons> Need to farm items> Back to start

WHEN WILL IT END

The Ride never ends. Soon you will have everything and still have to compulsively collect more items.

Yup, it'll always continue. That's what I usually do.

But today, I've finally decided to bite the bullet and start working on the Atlantis Crabstone award (a million resource points). I slapped together a nice little Uragaan-mining set and now I'm spamming the quest "Uragaan's Trail" and exploiting slime on his legs to force him to fall down. If each Lava Nugget is worth 1500 points, and I need about 750000 points... I'll only need about 500 more lava nuggets. No big deal, right? Right?!
Spoiler (click to show/hide)
After this, it'll be the commodities (also a pain), the Artisan's Hammer (gotta craft em all), and the crowns (there's really no easy way out of these). Looks like I've got my work cut out for me.....

Soul Sacrifice demo was fun. My friend said it was somewhat similar. I can see that.

Back in high rank I thought I had it hard. I needed three Zinogre Jaspers and they were so hard to get!

I need five skymeralds now. And three stygian skymeralds. I've fought five regular Zinogre and have gotten zero jaspers. I'm not good enough to solo farm Stygian Zins yet. This is going to take a while.

It took me seventeen Zinogre in high rank to get two jaspers (I still need one), so at that rate this will take about 68 Zinogres of various types before all my sweet weapons and armor are made. Bring it on, Monster Hunter.

Heheh. Welcome to Skymerald hell. I'm drowning in Jaspers because I too needed skymeralds. Best of luck.

On the bright side, I'm pretty good at Zinogre now.

I was fighting a high-rank agnaktor and had gotten its health far down, and it was running away to another area, when suddenly out of fucking NOWHERE a random felyne ran in with a barrel bomb on its head and detonated, instantly killing the agnaktor.

I finally got a Skymerald and the last Jasper I need. I also have two extra Jaspers now because once I don't need any the desire sensor decides to rub salt in the wound.

One of those is going towards Gimble Gyre. I'll have to figure out something for the other one.

Might as well make another Zinogre weapon that you haven't tried before, like LBG or gunlance or something. There's not much else you can do with a Jasper.

Big bumping double post for Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate Weapon Design Contest! These will most likely be used to reskin the Japanese DLC quest collaboration items like the Shingeki no Kyojin dual blades/armor and the One Piece stuff. There was a similar previous contest for Tri, which is where the Lion's Bane GS, Sinister Saints SA, and Tenebra LS came from. I'm sure there are some good weapon ideas around here, so even if we don't decide to enter, we can always talk about our dream weapons.

Semi-related: the rules say "If a Canadian resident wins a prize, that person must also answer correctly within a 5 minute time period a mathematical skill-testing question without the benefit of any calculating devices before the prize will be awarded," which I thought was kinda funny.

Also, looks like the confirmed localization names for the two new weapons are Insect Glaive and Charge Blade. I'll probably just keep calling them "bug staff" and "charge axe" though. Shouldn't be too hard to guess what that's referring to. At least Insect Glaive is a lot catchier than Neopteron Handler.

On one hand, I'm nuts about MH and would love to create something that would end up in the game... On the other hand, I sincerely doubt I could come up with a weapon design I like better than the ones already in the game. Not really my forte. :/
