Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Anyone?
« on: June 16, 2013, 09:55:02 pm »

It's the newest Monster Hunter. It's for the Wii and 3DS. It has G Rank, which will kick your ass.

Talk about your recent conquests, your frustrations (damn you Zinogre Jaspers), and share your friend codes and whatnot so you can hook up with other B12ers and take stuff out online.

This will serve as a general Monster Hunter thread until MH4 comes out, which will probably be in a couple years. News about MH4 and/or Monster Hunter Online is acceptable here.

I got my ass kicked by a Purple Ludroth. And I'm not getting any flood sacs for my G Rank Ceadeus HBG.

I'm really loving removing the limiters on bowguns, at least for Heavy. I never use crouch fire, so the only real loss is the after-shot hop. That's actually decently big, but I think it's worth it.

Got a Pro Tip (TM) for y'all G rankers.
ONLY FIGHT GREAT BAGGIS OUTSIDE THE CAVES!!! Otherwise they become super goddamn fast. Like, their limp will be faster than your sprint speed. Super fast. Stick to the caves and they'll be normal speed in there.

Are you sure they weren't just enraged? Rage makes monsters go faster, and the speed boost gets more significant in High/G rank.

Huh, could have been that. But I'm pretty sure they don't try to escape while raged. Or do they?

I think if you enrage something while it's running away, it'll stop and start fighting you again, but it can still decide to run away again later.

Quote from: wikia page on him
In MH3U G-Rank, the Great Baggi becomes much faster, especially when enraged
So I guess it was just rage. Weird, though, he never seemed to be that fast inside.

Hey, it was late the other night and I decided I wanted to try recording some MH3U 3DS gameplay. Not having proper equipment to do so, or even proper basic supplies to build a decent one, I managed to cobble together some really-poor-man's setup for recording. I want to know if you guys think the resulting quality is acceptable or if it makes you want to gouge your eyes out. I'll probably have to fiddle with exposure or dial down the screen light since it got pretty bright around snow.

Ignore my terrible performance, I've only recently picked up the hunting horn and dealing with my setup and the terrible screen angle for the first time was way too confusing to play with any finesse.

The video:

The setup if you want a laugh:

Any feedback or tips for improving the video quality would be welcome.

It could certainly be worse. It's better than some I've seen, and is acceptable IMO.

And since I didn't want to make a one line post, a few weeks ago I finished all the village quests, and Mark of a Hero shortly afterward (barely, I finished with 5 minutes left). Still haven't done Alatreon because oh my god it's terrifying. Here are some probably unhelpful tips that you should be able to find in other places:

That's a pretty fantastic setup. The video is entirely watchable. I don't have interest in watching people play MH3U, so I can't really say much further.

I played the demo, but I like Monster Hunter Freedom more. The emphasis on co-op in MH3U makes the monsters so much tougher. It took about 10 minutes of solid hitting (not counting chasing the monster, healing, and dodging) to take down the easy target.

I must say, though, the hunting horn and switchaxe are cool weapons.

I think it might have been the Kirin standing on that cliff?

Status report: killed Dire Miralis, reached HR44, killed Alatreon (not alone though).

Don't really wanna start a new thread... but anyone getting MH4?  I'm going monsternuts deep and gonna try the Japanese version (actually have to since 3DSs are region locked, perhaps?).  Never played before, but excited to give the series a try since Dragon's Dogma was very cool and it seems they've taken some aspects from that game.  Any takers who'd be interested in coop?
