If you are serious about that: I am still unconvinced that a cultist can legitimately be supported by the current format.

Focus maneuvers and mundane ways of killing things and support others with rituals. Make magic items to fuck people's shit up. Its doable, but not thoughtless.

A properly built cultist would actually look a lot like Jerry does now. So I wouldn't say that it isn't viable, especially given that you can spend Feature Points to get non-preparation spells. Your options are:

-Learn a spell that's mechanically similar to Wolf Shift. The fact that you need to prepare it doesn't matter because you're only ever casting it once or twice a mission.
-Get a gun and enchant it like crazy. Shoot people with magic bullets out of your magic gun.
-Spend a Feature Point on an At-Will blasting spell or two. Do all your blasting that way.
-Learn a Permanent Ritual that turns you into something beastly. Use your new-found demon claws or whatever when on missions.

I could imagine Cultist working, sort of, but I agree with Cript that it's sort of unwieldy. You really have to plan your char out and not deviate from the plan at all-and in the end, that means alot of sessions autoattacking with your magic pistol until it blows up in your hand. If you mess up your forum turns, you might as well not show up at all. I mean, for cripts old char Henry he literally was using a pistol for the entire game and those little paper bombs...which took half his forum turn to make and he sometimes missed with them. :P

Or sometimes he spent his whole turn on rituals that just messed up or crit failed.

In the end, it'd have been alot more fun if Henry had been a pyromancer. The only diff is, instead of auto-attacking, you're actually casting a variety of spells that are much easier to learn. Sure, at worst you blow yourself (and your friends) up occasionally, but it's a Hell of a lot more fun than relying on forum turns to make your char viable.

A cultist does sound quite interesting just in how different it is from the other classes, I'll have to think about how to make it viable. It sounds like the character would have to be very martial and have a lot of manoeuvres but that could be interesting for a change.

I think that it would be more viable this time around though Dwarmin. WS makes a very good point, with the addition of features and maneuvers I think it could work. It would of course be strange, since this is a game about mages doing mage things and you would not actually be casting very many spells. But on the other hand my current character is at his best when not casting spells, and importantly in this game casting spells is not the only viable option. That said, I don't think that the character concept that Henry was based on would actually work in this game as a player (but he could work pretty well as a NPC enemy.). But actual cultists could work as players if made a certain way.

As for pryromancer. Uh. Huh. I don't really follow. His issues were based on the style and framework he used, not the element, I can't really see the game having been different if fire had replaced earth in his style. A martial mage geomancer would have and still would work fine I would think.

Edit: Wow. the Martial mage features on the wiki are really good for what they are.
