Holy carp, DF community.
You already post 6 freakin' pages of stuff while I have yet to have a 2-page-long thread on Awesomenauts forum?

Least of my care share, but still.

Hardcore Awesomenauts
Battles are planet-scale, with multiple planets per game. Everything out there IS nasty - saw droids can and will cut your limbs off (unless you're Voltar, I guess), explosions destroy terrain. All of your weapons can overheat, which will stop them from shooting, or in the worst case scenario, they're gonna explode and blow your arm off (as will popping Spike's bubbles).
You have to scavenge for upgrades and Solar. Teleporting can randomly malfunction and teleport you to a random place - even the enemy ship. Oh, and you can also visit (and consequentially destroy) ships, which will prevent you from visiting other planets until another one arrives.

Characters now have much more mechanics related to their personalities - Clunk has anger management issues and can explode at random (with effects that you can probably guess by now), Genji (and Skolldir) have a bad attitude towards food, and don't be surprised if you suddenly drive the ship's food storage empty when you wanted to just eat a bit. Yeah, there's a hunger (and thirst) system in the game, which Clunk (and to a lesser extent Voltar) is "immune".
Oh, and morale is also a thing, which is a major problem for someone like Ayla (hello, this girl was put in a freakin' psychiatric ward not without reason).

And upgrades may not always be in the store, and some can be found in ship arsenals.

...TO THE GYWE THREAD!

Cashuel: OMG ALL TEH CASHUL NEUBS! TER FILTHY CASHEUELS! DEY SUX SO HARDZORS

Hardcore: ALL GOOD GAMES IS TEH HARDCORE. HARDCOR = GOOWD

Sorry. I think people are using "casual" interchangeably with "mainstream," when casual games are just games like Bejeweled and PvZ. And yet casual games like Angry Birds or Tetris can still be ludicrously difficult...

Hardcore Astroids: You must design, build, and pilot your own ship with semi-realistic controls, crewed by a bunch of greenish mental patients. Then the rocks come in...

Casual(ish) Liberal Crime Squad: You can save and reload, and there's an actual GUI. Loading screens that have essentially spoilery tips.

Hey, I already said that. Don't lump me in with the casual-hating masses.

Hardcore dwarf fortress: Keyboard commands are not displayed.
Even better: Keyboard commands also randomized every time you start the game... and every half hour while you're playing.

Alternately, it randomizes after every keypress. Good luck with that :D

... now I actually kinda' want to play a game (not necessarily DF) that, well, does that. No key does the same thing twice in a row. All hail the RNG! Maybe be nice and have movement controlled by the mouse... though the axes would swap around every few minutes.

Hardcore World of Tanks:

It takes several people to pilot a tank. There's a driver and gunner at least, maybe even jobs for the other positions on the tank. There's no alert for enemy tanks, the crew has to identify all enemies visually, with the commander spotting and giving orders and the radio crew relaying information through to the other tanks. There's no auto-aim, the gunner has to use the sights and, probably, an identification guide to shoot the enemy accurately.
