Casual Chromehounds (RIP):

Five classes of Mech replace total customization.
Individual parts cannot be stripped off.
No limit to communication distance based on captured tower deals anymore.
If you eject you are armed with an Anti-Armor Rocket Launcher.
No final epic boss mechs for each faction.
Ammo capacity doubled, reload time halved, shot travel time halved, recoil heavily reduced, and no bullet drop.

I don't know, Witcher 2 was all sorts of fun.
Didn't have fun cards though :(

Hmm...

Terror From The Deep. Now you will know why you fear the depths!

All other examples I can think of are from old/indie games. My personal thinking is that increased popularity sends the publisher into an uncontrollable greed frenzy, demanding MORE SALES FOR THE SALES THRONE CEO, at all costs. This results in a game with "increased mass appeal" which regretfully defeats the appeal of the original. And then, well, onwards to a new brand.

Speaking of the Witcher, Witcher 3 looks like a fuckton of fun.
I'm honestly surprised I didn't play Witcher or Witcher 2 yet, since it's a Polish series (some say the best Polish series in fact), and I'm Polish so...

FML.
At least I played Anomaly 2.

You HAVEN'T? They are cheap on Steam, and you have to play them. Some of the best PC games in the last while.
Also, read the books. I read a few in Russian and it definitely helped me enjoy the series.

You know what's worse?
The Witcher is actually going to be a set lecture for secondary schools in Poland starting the next year (while The Hobbit is moved down for primary schools).
And I'll be in the middle school at that time, reading something like The Deluge (Potop) or Sir Thaddeus (Pan Tadeusz). THAT'S NOT FAIR!

Screw this country and its educational system...

Before I say mine, would you say that the old Metal Gear Solid is hardcore or casual?

I'd say it hits a nice spot where it's a game without going to either extreme.
So bring forth both variations!

Hardcore Tetris: The pieces are invisible after landing, fall instantly, and come in at 120/180 pieces per minute.
Oh wait that actually exists.

Hardcore Mortal Kombat: With full ragdoll physics a-la Toribash. And still in realtime.

Casual IL-2 Sturmovik: War Thunder.

Casual Dwarf Fortress: Oxymoron.

I suggest we keep the games in a state that's  actually still playable and fun.
But then it will be not hardcore enough, besides, my version is pretty !!fun!! :)

Hardcore Dwarf Fortress: Enforced real time. One dwarf day is one real day long.

Good luck.

It won't be really that much harder. Just incredibly boring. :P
