Time/skill limit to hunt wild animals?
« on: June 15, 2013, 11:57:42 am »

I've seen it a couple of times now that my hunter severely injured an animal and then it just fled from the map. Is there a way to prevent this from happening?
Mostly it has been because my dwarf was hungry/tired or ran out of ammo and had to go back to the fortress for a while. Do i just have to wait until my hunter levels and thus kills faster (before an interruption comes up)?

Yup, you do wait till he gets better at killing things.
Well, actually you can give your military orders to finish off the wounded animal or provide him poisoned bolts but waiting would be the easiest way.
Or you can try assigning him dogs probably that will bring some results.

Hunting companions in the form of animals or Dwarves with sticks and heavy metal things do well to kill things.

Have you considered simply herding wild animals into cage traps and throwing them off towers to explode gratuitously once they land on your butchers' workshops below?
