An option in the army commands to 'subdue' a target would be nice then assign them to either a cage or chain. I'd rather for the challenge arrest a berzerk dwarf and have him rot in a jail cell for all of time. I could see a squad of 10 dwarves tackling another dwarf, pinning him down while they tie him up and throw him in a cell. With the non-lethal arc in development this would be a nice option. Then we could hold those filthy elven merchants as hostages )

Seems like a nice expansion to combat modes. Yes, there should be an option to tell your soldiers to knock adversary out without killing them, and they should at least try to do that.
Then they'd need ropes and chains to immobilize foe for longer period of time or to drag him to cage immediately.
Wrestlers probably could do that with even conscious target, not that it'd be difficult for them to place a chokehold for one turn.
Also, there could be special equipment for this purpose, like lasso and bola and whatever that stick with a loop at the end they're using to catch stray dogs is called.
That'd provide means of capturing and taming animals without the need of spamming the map with the cage traps.

Most of the time they call them a pole snare or catch pole.

That's a nice idea. How about adding a possibility to arrest with fortress guards? You could tell them that you want this, this and this dwarf in jail and they will take him or her to the jail. Arrested dwarf would have a very bad thought (Ecstatic-to-miserable?) for being in jail for no reason. That would be useful for taking moody dwarves that demand inobtainable materials to a safe place. Arresting nobles would be impossible. What do you think about it?

EDIT: Insane dwarves would need to be subdued as said previously.

This would also be great with invaders.
If an invader is knocked unconscious or otherwise  immobilised,  he is taken prisoner instead of killed.
Then he can be used for live training.

Perhaps you could ransom them...

Say if you caught a leader from one gobbo siege you can use it to stop the next.
Or even sue for peace...

Yes first they can jail them. Then they can lawfully execute them.
Can a public guillotine be set up as a meeting area for morbid dwarves?

How about prisoner exchanges? Could trade that goblin leader you managed to take alive for your Legendary Weaponsmith they managed to catch last siege.

Once goblins actually take prisoners instead of just killing everyone that is.

I know right? Aside from some decent booze, sand, and a few knick knacks, who honestly armors their Dwarven military in birch helms and palm breast plates? Stats and all that aside, it just ain't dwarfy. Unless its an oaken shield... but it better look like a log xO
