If such a position were to be instituted, I think calling them a dwarf therapist would be a nice nod.

I'd be happy just as long as we didn't have to leave our insane Dwarves to die. A dungeon master could keep and feed berserk Dwarves.

This is a great idea.

It should also be possible for an insane dwarf's loved ones to do their best to take care of them. Ultimately it shouldn't be out of the question to have a berserker's family member(s) try to lock them in their bedroom and slip them food and water while they sleep; maybe try to get them into chains or a cage so they can do so while the berserker's awake at some risk of injury. Dwarves dealt with in this way could register as "missing" if their reluctant jailers are ashamed of the situation; there should be some way of keeping other dwarves out of the prison-room, so they might claim it as a second bedroom or something I suppose.

It would probably be most effective on dwarven children, so you could have a situation where a dwarf chains their berserk child up in a disused bedroom for decades, dies, and then some other hapless dwarf opens the door to their new bedroom only to let out a half-starved murderous lunatic. Or at least a corpse chained to the wall, I guess. Maybe if prison-breaks are implemented in dwarf mode things might get more Fun.

I think elves are more more suited for mental therapy.  I would think that dwarf therapy is probably along the lines of  booze, crafting, and battle.... Though I would think it awesome if some of the crazy dwarves started engraving some of their bad thoughts on random smoothed walls.

I find myself fond of the ideas that call for the preservation of dwarven lives. Having to manage and cope with that darker side of dwarven society is all part of the fun.

And it would kinda be cool to see 5 berserkers chained up, "accidentally" be set loose in the fort once that 3rd wave of goblin lashers crashes through the front door ^_^ sure they'd die, but my experiences tell me at least 1 or 2 gobs would lose a head

I've always wanted to use berserkers like traditional Norse berserkers. Albeit a bit more crazy I suppose - tie them up, feed them drugs and alcohol, give them a weapon and set them loose.

Maybe we could bring back the the philosopher to handle the sad dwarves. A local peasant who lost his child recently would seek their wisdom on the subject, and receive a corresponding happy/unhappy thought from the conversation depending on their personality.
You can sort of do this at the moment. The expedition leader and mayor positions have [RESPONSIBILITY:MEET_WORKERS] attached, and it's this that makes them conduct meetings with unhappy dwarves. I believe it's also what's responsible for the selection of those positions -- positions you appoint list dwarves in order of their suitability (where applicable), and dwarf-appointed positions likely use the same listing.

So you could make a dwarf whose sole purpose was to chat to unhappy citizens, but to guarantee that a dwarf would go and talk to them you might have to remove that responsibility from the expedition leader and mayor.

I am trying to make chickens lay bees as eggs. So far it only produces a single "Tame Small Creature" when a hen lays bees.
Honestly at the time, I didn't see what could go wrong with crowding 80 military Dwarves into a small room with a necromancer for the purpose of making bacon.

Equally though the philosopher should be able to become a nihilist and tell the sad dwarf his life is meaningless.
