Adelaide yawns.

"So, um, whaddayou think Mr. Foster? Are these my new teammates?"

At the corner of the table, what seemed to be a statue-still bundle of cloth stirred. Elian peeked up, his hood obscuring most of his face, his expression one of mild amusement. He had been carefully observing and listening to the conversation, not only at his table, but around in the inn, picking up tidbits and snatches of conversation with his keen hearing.
"Well, as far as I know, you're the only one getting the foot rubs, Adelaide, and it won't be too long until I end up snuffing it myself if you two keep insisting on the skullduggery I'm apparently known for."

"What would I bring to the table? Well, as far as I can see, your group has little to no mounted support, doesn't it? I am from Alteria, specifically the village of Gerduo, where the finest of horses are bred and trained, Obviously, I am a mounted warrior. That is what I can bring to the table."

He drank quite as heavily as the other two, showing a remarkable tolerance, as well.

"You would have to be careful, none of us have your speed and range; you could easily find yourself surrounded by enemies, and Adelaide will likely be too busy flirting to stitch you back together."

Nathara smiles, clearly excited by the chance to show off magic, and draws a few incredibly basic anima runes straight onto the counter.
She then reads off of the runes as she snaps her fingers, multicolored sparks spring out of her fingers in a light display.
:"Like I said! I started with prestidigitation!"

"You can do it bigger, right? I'm sure a fireworks display will fascinate our enemies, but not before they ram a sword into someone's gut, which just might be a bad thing."

"So, um, whaddayou think Mr. Foster? Are these my new teammates?"

"Possibly, possibly. I have an idea for testing them, Elian. Hopefully one that will turn out to address your concerns."

Foster leaned forward, placing his hands on the table.

"There's an orange orchard not too far from here. They think they might be the target of a bandit attack within the next few days. The pay's crap but there's free room and board, provided you don't mind sleeping in the stables."

He nudged Adelaide.

"Makes 'a roll in the hay' quite literal, wouldn't you say? Anyway, you three accompany us on this job. When it's over, you'll get a portion of the pay and if we have to fight and you do well, you're hired. If we don't have to fight, well... you're probably hired anyway."

Foster laughed.

"So, do you agree to these terms?"

"The pay's crap but there's free room and board, provided you don't mind sleeping in the stables....

Makes 'a roll in the hay' quite literal, wouldn't you say?"

"I suppose the stables are fit for a stallion of your stature, then? Only the best for you, Mr. Foster." She said, nudging him back and smiling.

Low pay and sleeping in a horse stable, Adelaide couldn't endorse-but, she would probably get plenty of paid free time for standing around and looking important, so there was that. No fighting was the best job for a mercenary. Hopefully that hay would be clean, at least.

It might be boring, but maybe there would be some cute farmhands she could distract from work.

Honestly, who would attack a grove of oranges anyway?

Really.

"True, true. As long as people stay close to me, I'll be able to heal them...but go too far and I'm liable to get distracted. Time spent sprinting across an open field to postpone ones inevitable doom is time wasted when I could be checking my reflection, or doing my nails...beauty before effort, and all that..." She commented, simultaneously checking her reflection in a small hand mirror, and examining her nails.

"Also, what's a skullduggery? Is that some sort of...underground dwelling...mole...type of monster?" She replied, ale washing comprehension of that sentence away.

"Eh, I take what life gives me, whether it's a bed in the palace in Sondirra or the cover of an overhang in the mountains of Austrys."

Foster leaned back, tilting his chair slightly off of the floor, and put his boots on the table.

"Anyway, it should be a peaceful few days. Plenty of time to get to know the new guys and get them accustomed to life in the Dogs."

Adelaide takes another swig of alcohol. She feels a pleasant dipping sensation that perhaps indicates gravity may soon reverse it's course and she might have clutch the ground to keep from floating away.

Blink, blink.

"...Wheeee...Hey Mr. Fosterboss. You never told me much about Austrayl...er, Austyra...what's your homeland really like? I've heard...Austryans sing hymns every morning, so the Divine Dragon forgives all their sins at night...tee hee!"

"Austrys? Well, it's a nice enough place I suppose. There are some mountains with some great views. I went to the top of one once with this wyvern rider to spend a day or two as a vacation. It was peaceful and scenic. Kind of a welcome respite, you know?"

Foster crossed his ankles and spread his hands in a sort of shrug.

"I follow Jadyne as much as any other Austrysian, but sometimes you just need a break from praising the Light Dragon."

"Humm, I haven't really decided which Divine I want to venerate in full...it's a tough choice, you know?

So I just sort of pray a tiny bit to each one, every day. Which has worked up till now just fine!"

"I am not a fool. The group would be a great help as far as staying alive is concerned... though as with you, I have little faith in their healer, as she seems more keen to distract her commander than anything."

"So, do you agree to these terms?"

"I agree to them. It seems like a simple enough job."

"Hey, I'm a great healer-the best healer around! No ones died on my watch, or been seriously mangled either. Compared to you bumpkins, who we'll just have to take your word for it that you don't completely blow, I've proven myself to Mr. Foster.

Elian over there shut his hood for a week and wouldn't speak to me, when I took care of that spear wound he took to the leg. So at least I know he doesn't like me. You people don't have any excuse, I mean we just met...or are you getting me confused with someone you met before? Perhaps, in the out of character thread? Cause that wouldn't be cool, guys.

You shouldn't judge a book by it's um, cover. Even if the cover is like mine, and very nice to look at...tee hee...I've only been nice to all of you...or, uh, at least non-aggressive...

So why don't you let me surprise you? I promise, I'm more than just a very pretty face."
She pontificated, waving her healy staff in the air for emphasis.

Despite her inebriation, Adelaide sounded fairly confident of herself, and while she wasn't angry she was trying to make a point with some force in her words and body language.

: "Woah, hold the pegasi miss. All we were doing was having a little bit of fun. It's not like we started a theological debate or anything.

Though I doubt the fact that you're the best healer. You're likely pretty good, but I assume there are better within most nations respective religious institutions. And Your companion over there just seems to hate speaking altogether."
Ralai explained.
