Chapter 21: Glass

"That would be nice."
"Sure. Haven't had to lug this around for a while."
"Would be happy to get something in my stomach, yes."
"Shure. Where was the last time we ate anyways?"
"Thanks mate. What were you doing when all of this started anyway?"
"I think we could all use some food."

The unanimous decision is made for a food stop in the middle of the woods. The 14th Community also concurs. "Right then," Omeen dictates, "it would be good for us to stop and eat." As he presses forward into the mass of trees, he spots a brief clearing. "Found a spot, let's all settle and get some stuff out."
Everyone puts their things down besides them temporarily, slumping against a tree trunk or sitting down. Both parties open their food sources, the Drifters digging into Ben's bag. Cans of various meat, fruit, and vegetable material are opened, and water bottles are passed around. The bag has done an excellent job so far of regulating the correct temperature for each item. The hunger and thirst piercing the group is quelled for now.

7 WS ConsumedDuring the eating, inter-group conversation is held. Trish sits down besides Kyle, "So, about those stories you were talking about..."
At the same time, Ben heads over to stand next to Omeen who happens to be leaning upon an Oak, shotgun resting perpendicularly, next to him. "Hey mate, what were you doing when all of this started anyway?"
Omeen shrugs, "I was just living life. Matter of fact, the day this all went down I was picking up food for a barbeque. When I was driving back home, that's when things went way out of hand. I heard that stuff was a bit crazy farther up north, but I didn't think it would travel anywhere. Good thing I had that food too, otherwise we wouldn't have lasted the first days, man."
As everything has reached a point of some sort of relative tranquility, it is broken when something breaks near about ten meters to the side of the lunch spot. Not a branch or some other natural object, no, each person could clearly hear that the shattering sound was
glass breaking up into numerous pieces, and there was no glass around them when they had first arrived. Everyone instinctively goes for their own belongings, as Omeen curses and grabs his gun, "I don't think we're alone."
