"Ah, well, it is true that there was no love lost between my Uncle and councilman Yondell, but... Whether or not the council will see fit to allowing my Uncle such power, I cannot say."

Wilfort shrugged. "In any case, we may as well stay the night here before continuing to Exsten. That wasn't the hardest battle we've ever fought, but we still need rest. We can't be sure what sort of resistance we'll meet at the border."

Brann slowly pushed himself up and sighed.

"I... I need some time to think or something. I will stay close. Thank you again for the offer Your Highness but it just would not have been right."

He bowed to her and Wilfort before walking back into the throne room, staring at the dead body of the Councilman before continuing on over to the nearby empty staircase. Sitting down, he took his sword out and slowly started to clean and polish it. He still wasn't happy with all the Worus deaths that he had been a part of, especially now two dead Councilmen. All his life, he'd sworn to protect those in charge and now he'd been a part of killing them. And soon he would be headed off to fight some of those who were blessed by God. If Diana's current path was any indication, she would likely try to completely wipe out one of the Royal lines. He'd been considering this thought ever since Wilfort had asked him if his failure to protect the Worus Royal line was the end or if his protection extended elsewhere. Of course he would protect Wilfort and Diana, but what about the Exsten line? It wasn't an easy question and one that he suspected would continue to weigh him down until the moment he made his decision. And maybe even after.

"Agreed. Ursa, can you start clearing out these corpses? I'll help. Neeya, would you take a few people... let's say Jago, Anita, and Tyrn, and look around the place, get a feel for the layout and maybe find us something to eat? Oscar, Otiros, Enoch, Wilfort, I want you to sweep the area and make absolutely sure it's secure. Ceil, you know what to do. Felicia, I'm leaving the looting to you. Get everything that looks valuable."

All that said, Diana slung the corpse of Yondell over her shoulder and started carrying it outside. Brann had asked for a moment, and she would allow him to have it rather than give him an order.

Otiros was actually surprised that Diana managed to move him to a chair. And while they had the conversation going, he remained there before finally being capable of moving up again, stretching himself a bit before reaching for the crossbow.
"I would rather not be reminded about looting another soldier, but I might have his ring, Milady."
He nodded at the given order and laid the crossbow over his shoulder before starting to march, such a pity there were no fancy crossbows to take from that place. Or was there?
Besides securing the area, check for any armory or hidden weapons.

Otiros did not find any serviceable weapons that the group might be able to claim. He did, however, find a small sum of coins. Was this all that had been left to Yondell?

The party gains 1500 gold!

Wilfort made his own pass around the keep. It didn't seem as though Yondell had held anything back, and the halls were quiet. Maybe the servants had escaped during the battle? There was no sign of anyone outside the group. The young prince passed Brann as he walked, and stopped to speak to the swordsman. "You made the right call. I hope you aren't second guessing yourself here."

"No, it's not that. It's..."

He hesitated, not sure how Wilfort would take this, but then pushed on.

"I... We've talked before about how I want to protect the Royal lines. And obviously that means I will protect you and Diana. But... There's another Royal line. And... I don't know if I can protect that one and still stay with this group after."

"Ansel's a loon and he's going to die. There's no way around that. I don't know a whole lot about his son though. But if he stands with his father, he's just as much a threat. I know you have your own reasons to fight, but... If he's a danger to his people, he needs to go. And that'll be the end of the Exsten bloodline. You're going to have to make peace with that, one way or another. The point of royalty is to serve and protect the people under their rule. If they endanger their people without just cause, they aren't royalty. No matter what's in their veins."

"I'm not saying Ansel. I know that saving him would be a mistake. But... What if his son has done nothing wrong beyond being Ansel's son? Does that mean I should just stand aside and let Diana execute him? Would it be right to give her that power? I don't think so. But... I'm also afraid that nothing I do will stop her."

"Try not to agonize it too much until we actually meet the guy. No point in figuring out how to keep Diana from decorating with his guts if he's backing up his father, right?"

Brann shrugged and wiped his blade one last time before sheathing it again.

"I just can't help it. There's been so much blood spilled already. Good men... My countrymen... I'm not sure I like the path that Diana is headed down. Even if taking Yondell down was needed... The threats she's been making... The way she's been acting... I worry this war may end and her vengeance will be without a target anymore and...

He sighed and trailed off. He didn't want to finish that sentence or that thought. He didn't want to be doubting his leader. But nothing he tried could get those thoughts out of his head.

Ursa nodded at Diana's request and began dragging bodies outside, two at a time.

Thwarted by Diana once again, Oscar goes look over the area in search for threats and treats.

Otiros shook his head a few times in disapproval at the lack of gold.
"If that was all they had, I am not even sure how they were paying their soldiers."

"...Yeah, actually I don't really have a plan for that." The young prince sat beside the older man. "Diana is an incredible warrior, and a shrewd commander, but I don't know how well she'll rule. War is the last act of diplomacy you know. I somehow get the idea she might consider skipping to it much too often."

"Yeah... I mean, you're young but even you know that! She should have had that training, shouldn't she? I just... I mean, I understand the desire for revenge. Trust me, I do. But... I think it's consumed her. I suppose... we'll see."
