Enoch was silent as he watched Diana and Brann, curious as to how the green haired swordsman would react.

"Diana, don't you think you're overstepping yourself somewhat?" Wilfort said, joining the others in the throne room. "Adding Brann to the nobility would be one thing, but... I don't think it's really possible for us to pronounce him royalty. That's God's domain, right? Not that I'm sure it would matter. Worus doesn't have a monarchy like Durhiel or Exsten."

Diana quirked an eyebrow at Wilfort.

"Who said anything about royalty? I merely meant I would back him for Yondell's position if it came to it, and he wanted it. And the council, pack of cowards that they currently are, still are technically politically equal to our kingdom's rulers. We WILL have to deal with them once this is over - and I don't necessarily mean with a sword, Wilfort, don't give me that look."

[Swordstar]

"I... I don't... I'm just a swordsman. I protect those blessed by God. All I want to do is protect the royal bloodlines... I'm not... I wouldn't even know where to begin being more than a guardian."

He was stunned that she would offer such a thing to him. Such a thing was something that he'd never even dreamed about.

Wilfort let out a derisive snort. "The members of the council are hardly our political equals Diana. They must act with the approval of their fellow councilmen to deal with any foreign matters. Even taken as a whole, their own political power would be less than ours. If we were actually ruling our countries, that is."

"You aren't wrong of course. Someone will need to be elevated to Yondell's position at some point. Pataphrax as well, we butchered him as well if you'll recall."

[Xanmyral]

The mage tapped his chin in thought, looking at the ring and the swordsman. "A blessing is my guessing. I will be expressing that you should accept the pressing!" The strange mage seemed to almost congratulate the swordsman.

[Swordstar]

"I... It's not my place. I'm just... I have no training in ruling, I've always just been a guard for the Council. They would never accept me. Even if I was from this group, I'm not someone that they would want on the Council."

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Really, I wouldn't consider this the time or place to be determining who's going to be filling a political vacuum once Ansel is dead. What's the saying? Don't count your wyverns before they hatch? Something along those lines."

[SeriousConcentrate]

Diana nodded.

"Taking some time and thinking it over is good, too. You could likely do a lot of good with that sort of clout. But as much as I would like having someone I trust in a position of power here in Worus, I'm not going to push it at you. That would make me no better than Ansel."

A political marriage was practically the same thing, she thought. She had made the offer, and Brann was free to say yes or no as he wanted. If he did say no, though, she'd have to find someone she could trust with Yondell's territory - and someone who was ready to fight for it, which was why she hadn't offered it to Ceil. She didn't think the healer wanted to hurt people. She turned to Wilfort.

"Weren't you the one telling me to believe we're going to win? Regardless, if we do, this IS something that will have to be sorted out eventually."

[Blade Master Model 42]

"True enough. Personally, I think it would be wiser to see if we can somehow get councilman Kuimer to absorb Pataphrax and Yondell's territories." Neeya turned to watch the conversation, but said nothing. "He's used to ruling, and is already sympathetic to us. And furthermore, it would go some way to repaying him the support he was able to give us in our time of need. Think it over."

[Swordstar]

"I think that would be better... I'm not... I'm not a ruler. It's not what I was raised to... At least the Councilman already has experience. And he did help us when there was basically nothing in it for him..."

The paralyzing spell had fully worn off at this point, but Brann was still so stunned at all of this that he hadn't realized yet.

"I would be lying if I said the thought hadn't crossed my mind. Did we remember to take Pataphrax's ring, as well?"

Diana patted Brann's shoulder.

"All right. I'll consider it turned down."

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Not as I recall. Then again, I wasn't the one who stripped him. Otiros may have taken it as a trophy, I don't know."

[Swordstar]

"I'm sorry I just..."

He shook his head and looked over at Ceil.

"Despite what it would gain me... I think that it would be the wrong place for me."

He knew that if he took her offer, he would be able to gain power and riches beyond what he'd ever dreamed but... That wasn't what he wanted or needed. Not really.

[SeriousConcentrate]

"He might have. We'll ask him later, once he's recovered. Either way, fair is fair. Kuimer sheltered us for two nights and gave us traveling money, and we killed his two biggest threats and tripled his territory and political power. I'd say we're even at the very least. Wouldn't you agree, Neeya? I'm sure your uncle will be pleased with this outcome."
