"Regardless, we have to consider Worus enemy territory for the time being. I'm not saying we're here to loot and sack the country, but we should treat any encounter as a potential threat and plan accordingly. We need to be on our way."

Diana put a hand on his shoulder.

"For what it's worth, I know what it's like to lose your home. But after we deal with Ansel, all of us can settle back down where we belong... whether you decide that's in Durhiel, Ulfijan, or Worus will be your choice."

Ursa patted Brann's other shoulder, trying not to use too much strength as he did so. He didn't really know what to say, so he kept it simple.

: "Ursa is sorry. This must be hard for Sword Man, killing humans of own country. Especially brave ones like him."

Brann shook his head.

"This is different. Your country was lost, yes. But your country fought. It stood against the enemy. We... My country wasn't lost. It joined the enemy. It surrendered. Which is bittersweet. Because at least we survived. But at what cost? Is surviving truly worth living in slavery to another country? Is it truly worth living in fear, as cowards? We are a country of fighters! Mercenaries make up so much of our country, and yet one assassination is all it took to bring us to our knees. And now we would rather fight against the one hope of the world because it means that maybe the survivors would escape Ansel's wrath. We spit on courage and ignore all that is right. And good men die because they are too afraid to realize that there is hope yet. It shames me to hear of what we have become. And it kills me to murder my countrymen because of the cowardice of the Council."

He hadn't realized that his grief had changed to anger until part of the way through his speech. His fists had clenched and he was starting to shake.

"Maybe they were right in their decision to surrender. Maybe they weren't. But either way, I haven't lost my country like you or Wilfort has. Instead, my country has abandoned itself. At least you can grieve over your dead. I have to mourn over cowardice. And yes Ursa. It is hard. Hard because we could have fought together. My country was strong. With the help of Worus, we could have stood against Ansel's armies. And instead I leave the dead behind, a reminder of all that our country has lost by bending its knee. We may have saved lives, but we lost so much more."

"We could have, yes, but we'll have to make do with just us."

The worst part is, Pataphrax was probably right about everything... But I've come too far to give up now, and if I and everyone at my side are to die, then we'll fall in battle. We'll have a true warrior's death or victory.

"Take a moment to rest, everyone. Ciel, can you tend to Brann's wounds?"

It would give him some time to work out his emotions, and he liked the healer. Her presence would likely do much for him. She turned to the group at large and bowed slightly.

"You all fought well. You do me great honor."

Wilfort guided his pegasus toward Diana, where he dismounted. "Militarily speaking, Pataphrax was probably the strongest of the council. But we must consider that we're still in enemy territory- Even if we keep a brisk pace, we could be attacked again. Specifically, I would think by Yondell. Especially considering we're in his territory. It may be worth it to scratch him out before moving on- Particularly when we consider that he was the loudest voice for cooperation with Ansel."

"On the other hand, we don't really have time to waste. And it's possible he wouldn't dare to attack us, after we dealt with Pataphrax. What do you think, Princess?"

"I think that, rather than just killing Yondell for being inconvenient, it would be more satisfying to bring Ansel's head to the Worus council chambers and throw it in his face. Once he's done sweating about what we might do then we can leave, no harm done to this country besides a laugh at their expense. But if he decides to attack us while we're passing through, then he'll receive the same fate as Pataphrax."

"It isn't about convenience." Wilfort huffed. "This is about the morale and disposition of the Worus council. Yondell is the ringleader for the pro-Ansel side of the argument, and Pataphrax and at least several others went along with him. If we dispose of Yondell, that position may lose strength on the council. I doubt we'll gain any allies, but I believe it would almost entirely negate a threat from the rear for when we actually face Exsten."

"I'm not saying it'd be a bad idea to wait and see if he's dumb enough to attack us... But we need to seriously consider every option before us."

Oscar played with his bowstring for a while, and made it 'twang' once very loud before he rode the horse up to Princess.

"I guess Willfort just wants to get rid of as many of Princess Diana's opponents as possible. I agree; let's murder them all before they become trouble."

"I understand what you're saying, but I don't know if we have the resources to go after every council member supporting Ansel. I doubt every member of our group would agree with such a plan, as well."

She glanced in the direction of Ciel and Brann before returning her eyes to Wilfort.

"We need to get to Ansel as soon as possible, before he has time to gather any more strength... or are you suggesting we take our time here and let him grow complacent before we go after him?"

"I never suggested all of them- Just Yondell, the metaphorical linchpin. But it would take us time, you're right about that. The final decision is yours, though."

"Understood, but I'm going to gather opinions before I decide."

Diana turned to her group.

"Wilfort suggests that, while we're in the area, we should eliminate Yondell and destabilize Ansel's supporters in Worus. I want to hear what you all have to say before we decide to either move on or pursue Yondell."

"I'll mark you down under the 'kill Yondell' category, based on what you said a few minutes ago, Oscar."
