Diana reached over and put a hand on his shoulder.

"And it would be my honor to have someone of your family along with us. You're a good man, Brann."

She felt better knowing he was staying with the party. He had many good reasons for leaving, but with him there... maybe the chances of surviving an assault on Exsten weren't so terrible. But on the other hand, and on the lighter side of things, he had said something rather gossip-worthy that was worth following up on.

"Oh, I think I know who you're talking about!"

She giggled quietly, hiding her mouth with her hand.

"I bet she'll be glad you're with us. She's... well, I'm not trying to disparage her in front of you, but she doesn't seem to show her emotions very easily, does she?"

"I.... I don't... She's just... She's beautiful and so caring and... I don't know how she feels about me but... I want to protect her for as long as she'll let me."

He looked down, away from Diana, embarrassed at all of that just spilling out like that.

"I probably sound like a lovesick teenager. I've only known her for a short while and yet... Something... She jusg seems like the right match. I don't know. Maybe it's the war. Things are so hectic, it's nice to have something... happy. Because that's what she is for me. Something happy, something kind. I just feel like... everything is going to be ok when she's with me."

Diana nodded.

"No, it doesn't sound dumb. Sometimes you just want to be near someone strong and caring, that makes you feel safe like nothing bad is going to happen as long as they're around."

It felt kind of weird to say that with the object of her affections right there nearby, but she doubted Ursa or Brann knew that. She liked to think she was good at hiding her thoughts. She wasn't, but regardless. She laced her hands together behind her back.

"If it makes sense, sometimes I think of her as the mother I never had. She's... got that kind of air about her, to me. But then I suppose she acts that way toward me out of concern... I probably make her worry a lot."

"I... yeah. I guess it makes sense you understand. I'm sure you feel that way all the time, too. It's nice to have someone who understands. And... I guess I can see why you think of her like a mother. She's just so... caring. I just... I don't know where to go from here. Plus, she's involved in a religious sect and I don't know what their thoughts on... Well, relationships are. And I don't want to just ask her because... what if she doesn't feel the same? It's so hard to tell..."

"Hmm, yes. That does sound like it would be a problem."

Diana bit her lower lip in thought, looking up with a raised eyebrow as she mulled it over.

"Maybe I can ask her for you? As a favor for a friend, I mean. I won't tell her what I want to know it for, though I imagine she could guess."

"I... I wouldn't object, I suppose. I'm no good at all of this. I gave her a present earlier, but I don't know how she took it and I just..."

He sighed.

"Please. And... If there's anything you ever need in a similar vein..."

He paused, glanced at Ursa, grinned, and then looked back,

"I'd be glad to help. After all, guy talk and such. I'm sure I could find out if someone you're falling for feels the same about you."

"Er, well, I'm sure nothing of the sort would be required, but thank you for offering."

Diana glanced at Ursa right after Brann did. He wasn't implying anything, was he? She was sure no one had figured it out. Apart from Wilfort. OK, so maybe she did have a girlish crush on the big guy... who saved her from a fate likely worse than death without even knowing who she was, just because it was the right thing to do... and was always there when she needed him... She decided to stop her thoughts right there, stop staring at Ursa, and try to get a real response to Brann.

"Er, quite, yes. A present, you say? What did you get her?"

Hopefully her curiousness would smooth that over and she could stop fidgeting awkwardly.

"Uh huh... Right. Nothing of the sort. Well... If something changes your mind and you could bear to ask my help, I'll be willing, don't you worry."

He grinned as the princess seemingly got lost in thought while looking at Ursa. It seemed he'd been right about his guess.

"Oh, uhm, it was this necklace... It had the Divine Weapons on it... It's a religious symbol and such. And it also apparently can be used to store magic... I just... It seemed perfect. She apparently had one from her mother though... It was cracked but I'm sure it still means more to her than anything I could give her..."

"Well, I suppose it wouldn't hurt for you to ask around. I am a bit curious as to how people see me... whether I'm just, you know, the Princess of Durhiel to everyone or not... Regardless, thank you again."

Diana wasn't certain if that was a pun. It sounded suspiciously like a pun relating to Ursa's name, but she chose to continue in the wrong belief that she had things under control (and no one was going to organize an impromptu "Kiss The Girl' number like this was The Little Mermaid or anything of that nature. Not that she knew about such things).

"I see. It sounds like you picked your gift well! I'm sure she appreciates it. I know I'd like things that remind me of my father."

Diana shrugged. Other than Gram - preferable covered in Ansel's blood - there wasn't a whole lot someone could give her to remind her of Drahool. Not that she didn't think about him often; the possibility of getting revenge was one of the main reasons she continued on this quest.

"Hmm, so, family... What is your family like?"

((gah, sorry for late responses))

"Speaking of your wounds, how are you holding up?"

: "Much better than before. Priestess fixed Ursa up in no time, and did very good job! Ursa wish she had been around to heal some old wounds."

Brann came over shortly afterwards, and his newest possession made the bearserker shake his head in dismay.

: "Sword Man, not you too! Is everyone except Ursa secretly archer?" But he lacked his usual vehemence towards all things arrow-related, and simply sounded mildly disappointed. Thankfully, the conversation soon veered in another direction.
: "So Sword Man has a ladyfriend? Good to hear! Sword Man been so serious lately that some cheering up would be nice."

"Well they're...

Then Ursa interrupted.

"Err, yes. I'm sorry, I know you don't like bows but... Remember that me using a bow doesn't change who I am. We're still friends. Bows are weapons, but... We need to be able to fight at our full strength, right? My sword... It doesn't let me attack enemies who are far away. I need a way to be able to fight back against the mages and the archers we face. Otherwise... Otherwise I can't help protect people."

"I... She's not my lady friend. Well... she is my friend. And she's a lady. But... Ceil... I don't know how she feels about me, that's the problem. I'm afraid she just sees me as a younger brother or something. But... I agree. It's nice to have some point of happiness these days."

Diana rubbed the back of her neck. Well, that could wait until a later chat, she supposed. She didn't want to be too nosy and rude, and it would only be fair for her to talk about her own family and she wasn't up for that right now, so...

"Indeed. It's all right, Ursa. We need every advantage we can get against Exsten. If Brann is a skilled archer, then it'll only hurt all of us in the long run to ask him not to use his abilities."

She put her hand on the big man's upper arm to reassure him.

"...Anyway, it's good to hear that you're fine. I was really worried after that battering we all took to protect Kuimer."

"Well, yes! Swords aren't balanced for it at all."

Diana smiled up at him.

"You're taking it well at least. One step at a time, right?"

: "Well, Ursa know that Sword Man still good fighter. So it not quite so bad."

: "Now, if Priestess start using bows...then Ursa start to worry. Got too many arrows here as is."
