"Yeah, yeah, whatever." Wilfort said as Ursa tightened the appropriate straps. Then he lowered his voice to a whisper. _{"Now, as a personal favor to me, since we're friends, would you please at least try to get the pronouns down? I understand old habits die hard and all that but you're clearly intelligent and I have plans. Big plans. Plans that'll piss off Oscar something fierce."}

Soon the entire group was in Kuimer's audience chamber.

"Well, not that you are all here, I am afraid I have bad news along with good news." Kuimer sighed heavily. "Though I do feel I should support you in your endeavor to stop Ansel, I am afraid that, in the meantime, other members of the council would bring war to my doorstep if I was to make such support clear, if for no other reason than to seek to prove to Ansel that they don't conspire against Exsten." At this news, Wilfort looked sullen, but unsurprised.

Diana shrugged. She hadn't really expected any support.

"Then what's the good news?"

[Blade Master Model 42]

"Even if I cannot lend you mercenaries in my employ, I will be able to assist you financially. Also, I noticed that your group appears to be made entirely of fighters. I can only imagine your efforts would be bolstered if I was to give you non-combative assistance. To that end-"

The councilman was interrupted by a man in heavy armor thundering into the doorway. "Councilman! It's Senator Yondell- He has brought mercenaries, and he says he is making an arrest!"

A brilliant flash of light filled the room as a wizened old man suddenly appeared in the audience chamber. "I have you now, Kuimer." The other man cast an appraising look over the assemblage. "The heirs to Ulfijan and Durhiel- Oh, the council will love this."

"We have no alliance with Exsten, Yondell. It is no crime for me to offer asylum to refugees of war, no matter their station."

The intruder scowled. "I rather think it is- Ansel has all the Divine Weapons now. If he sees Worus as a threat, he will come for us. I will not suffer this chance."

[Swordstar]

Brann couldm't hold himself back any longer.

"So is this what has become of Worus? A group of terrified men who refuse to stand up for what is right? Those serving you would die trying to protect you, but rather than honor their commitment, you hide like scared children. And when those who are braver than you appear, instead of aiding them, you try and destroy them. Today I am ashamed to be from Worus."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"We were about to leave before you interrupted."

"...but I have no problems whatsoever with cutting down a coward who bows to Exsten on our way out. Make your choice. Flee and live, or fight and die. Do the sensible thing. I doubt Kuimer's staff would much appreciate having to clean your blood from his chambers."

She turned to her people.

"Jago, Oscar, Otiros, would one of you kindly put an arrow between that arrogant old bastard's eyes after a count of three?"

Diana turned back to Yondell.

"One..."

[Blade Master Model 42]

"If you think I'll be cowed by your threats, you are mistaken. Though I think I'll crush you and your followers from a safe distance." Yondell disappeared in another flash of brilliant light.

"Probably should have led with three, princess..."

"Blast him! Yondell is the most vocal of the councilmen who advocated complying with Ansel. I am sorry, and though I have nothing more that I can offer you, I must ask for your protection in this hour."

Freya's nonresponsiveness and essential departure had knocked Jago into a very sullen state... But he still wasn't happy with this, not one hit.

Enoch sniffed as he tugged at the hem of his gloves, a peaceful smile adorning his face. Flexing the leather of the gloves taunt to his satisfaction, he touched the tome and totem under his vest, along with the ring Lucas gave him.

Well, I wanted to ask you about that light magic of yours, but I'm starting to feel exhausted, so I will cut straight to the point. I think you could make better use of this than me.

Lucas took the Guiding Ring he bought and tossed it to Enoch.

Back there on the ship, I saw the incredible flash of light you produced. So I feel like you're more ready than me to use it, as I still have a long way.

The mage caught the ring, surprised at recognizing it. It was one just like the one Brann found. He looked at it carefully, rolling it from fingertip to fingertip. He looked back at Lucas, confused. He looked back at the ring.

"Thank you... I shall use it when the time is true." It was more than a little obvious the mage wasn't used to being given gifts, as he seemed like he was expecting something that never came.

He stashed the ring and thanked the shaman more graciously moments after.

The man held as he hummed to himself cheerfully, a sort of wandering tune with no real pattern, wondering whether he should drain the totem or if he should try out the new tome.

Well, I guess we make our stand here. Our big guy can hold the door. As for the assistance you mentioned, Councilman Kuimer?

"We should move about a bit so you, Enoch, Jago, Otiros, and Oscar can fire on any enemies that get close. And I would prefer to guard the door myself, given the chance. This armor isn't just for show."
