[Haspen]

Oscar approached the Princess.

"Can we talk, Princess." His voice was a bit sullen.

[SeriousConcentrate]

"Of course. What is it, Oscar?"

[Haspen]

He glanced at other companions who were disembarking or preparing to.

"In private." He added.

[SeriousConcentrate]

Diana looked around. An open dock didn't allow for much privacy, but there was a stack of crates a few yards away. She walked over to them and waited.

[Haspen]

Oscar's heart pounded. This had nothing to do with Ursa or Wilfort, or anyone else... but he felt like he couldn't hide this from anymore, at least from his beloved Princess. He couldn't proceed with his plans until he bared his soul before Diana... of course, if she won't kill him in response.

He followed her, then took a deep breath and pulled the beret off his head, rolling it between his fingers, trying to compose sentences.

"Princess, there's a little bit about me that you must know. I wanted to tell you long ago, but you, we, were on the run, and you were busy with other things, and people, and Ulfijan, and you had so much on your head, and the circumstances behind all this running around... I simply didn't know when to pick a proper moment. But my secret is getting tiresome at hiding it from you... s-so..."

Another deep breath.

"Princess, I was born, lived, fought for, and ran away, from Exsten... Theoretically, I'm one of Ansel's subjects."

His eyes were fixed on her face, his own getting a tiny bit of paleness itself.

"There, I've said it. I await your... judgement, Your Highness."

[SeriousConcentrate]

Diana started to say something, stopped, and just looked at Oscar for a few moments.

"...So, you're an Exsten deserter?"

[Haspen]

"Yes. I was still in the army when I decided it's not for me, and stole the bow, and ran off..."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"I see. When did you leave?"

[Haspen]

Oscar had to pause at this question for a moment, to count days and nights, and...

"I believe we met, at that one inn - remember? - a week after I left my unit... maybe eight days, in fact... why do you ask?" He asked carefully, not sure why she was so interested about that piece of information.

[SeriousConcentrate]

Diana crossed her arms and continued to look at Oscar.

"I'm still making my mind up. Is there anything else you're hiding?"

[Haspen]

...

"...my over-the-head unrequited crush on you and desire to see you as the Empress of the world count?"

[SeriousConcentrate]

"...I'm being serious here, Oscar. This is not the time for joking."

[Haspen]

"Allright, the latter one isn't really serious."

He crumpled his beret for a moment.

"The former is the only other serious secret I have. Since I saw you, with all that charisma and dignity and beauty radiating form you, I fell in love... A-and it got worse when you cut off your hair... So, now you know two things about me I never told anyone else in this... entourage."

[SeriousConcentrate]

"You're not joking, are you?"

Diana was silent for a few minutes, her expression unreadable.

"...I'm going to need some time to think all of this over. We'll talk later when I have my mind in order."

(Because I gotta work tonight. Otherwise I'd be happy to keep going.)

[Haspen]

Oscar rolled the beret for a moment before placing it back on his head.

"I will take my leave then... Princess." He took a step backwards, then another, turned 180 degrees and walked away into the town.

He needed to take his mind off all this - he wasn't very good at enduring too much of soul-baring at once.
