Jago was about to reply indignantly when Ursa dropped the bombshell about arrows killing his mother. Then it took him a little bit to answer, in a softer voice.
:"You know... Ansel has killed many, many people, and... well, he's made orphans. He did it with a sword but... Diana and Brann both wield swords, and they're not evil, are they? Having a bow doesn't make me evil, in the same way."

Jago took on a bit more edge here.
:"And I am not a coward! I'm still here, I haven't run from this group, have I? I came expecting just to get into the military, not expecting just... all that's happened. But I haven't deserted, have I? I've fought with everyone else, haven't I? I've been wounded like everyone else, fought up and close like everyone else, been damn near gutted like everyone else! Say what you will, I am not a goddamn coward!"

Ursa just laughed in the archer's face. It was not a kind laugh.
: "Sword just a tool that can be use to kill, and tools only evil when use for evil. Arrows are weapons only.
"And compare to other archers here? Yes, you Coward. Horse Archer never show fear, but that because he crazy. Armor Archer tough and protect Princess. You scream and hide and panic and curse. Only archers more afraid than you were first humans Ursa kill."

He loomed over Jago.

: "Want Ursa to tell story about those humans?"

Wilfort looked toward Ursa and Jago, then looked back at Tyrn. "You wanna go make sure this doesn't get out of hand?"

Jago squints as Ursa laughs at him, and lets out a little angry sound.
:"Bullshit. Swords and lances aren't tools, I've only ever seen them be used to tear people apart. And do you think that when a smith is hammering away at a lance he's thinking about how it could be used as a tool? No. Weaponsmiths are weaponsmiths. They're thinking of how their craft should be able to kill people when they make them, not anything else. Swords, lances, even battleaxes are designed for death. They're weapons like any other weapon, not tools, not anything else but weapons. ...and you'd be surprised how you can use arrows without killing people.

...and showing fear doesn't make me a damn coward. So what I curse and scream? I do the same things everyone else does when it comes down to it! Just because I vent doesn't make me a coward! If I were a coward, I wouldn't be here. ...hell, I'd have run from you by now. But I haven't.
"

Jago looked up at Ursa.

:"I'm not afraid of you."

Wilfort made panicked motions for Tyrn to get in there and stop a murder pre-emptively.

"That's probably a good idea yes."

He walked over to the two and stood at a point where he would just need to take a couple more steps to get in between them.

"Is everything alright here gentlemen?"

And then Ursa did something that no-one, not even himself, expected. He calmed down, leaned back, and crossed his arms.

: "Hmph. Cursing Archer has guts after all. You right that sword and lance often use as weapon, but they have more non-kill use than arrow. Even axe, which has most tool use of all, can be weapon. See Hatchet? Ursa use to chop down tree, make house, break ice in winter, even cut hair and shave. And yes, Ursa use Hatchet to kill as Cursing Archer know."

He stared in silence for a moment, in something resembling grudging respect, before Tyrn interrupted.

: "Ursa fine. Just talking."

Jago glanced at Tyrn.
:"Yeah, we're fine.

Anyway, I've done pleeenty of non-kill things with arrows. I've climbed trees, laid out ropes, detonated stinkbombs, fished, set a campfire burning because I could, lots of thing.

"Well, alright then I suppose"

Tyrn looked back and forth at how the two men had calmed down. Satisfied, he then walked back to Wilfort and gave him a small shrug.

"I'm Anita Theriss, your highness. As thanks for saving me I'd like to accompany on your 'absurd quest' as Oscar called it."

Is that so...?

She wasn't surprised. Oscar struck her as an intelligent - or at least cunning - man, and she knew her quest was likely to end in her death herself. She had no illusions of success. Before she could say anything, Wilfort interrupted, almost echoing her thoughts and questioning the woman. Anita quickly revealed she was an anima mage and tricked into captivity.

"I see. Well, I'm already bringing along at least three people I can think of who might not be completely trustworthy. I doubt another one would make it any worse. You're welcome to travel with us for as long as you'd like, though I won't think badly of you if you choose to find your own way once we reach port. You see..."

"...my companions and I, we're going to kill King Ansel of Exsten. I don't know how or when yet, but we will."

Ceil spent a good half hour looking over Enoch, trying to treat the residual symptoms of his poisonings.
: "Bizarre. Just... Nothing short of it can describe this, Sir Enoch." She quietly muttered as she passed the healing light of her staff over every entry wound she could find, "Every battle, every wound, your blood seems to react so caustically. I can treat the symptoms but..."
Ceil lifted her head up as she heard Brann's concerns.
: "Hm?" She tilted, but then started chuckling to herself, "Ahah... I suppose you're right, Brann. There's only so much I can do from basic healing, aside from just staring and nattering treatment advice." After ensuring Enoch's wounds were sealed as best as possible, she stood and walked over to a nearby crate, seating herself and heaving a heavy sigh, "I admit, I'm starting to associate your voice with 'take a break' now."

Wincing slightly, Brann shook his head.

"I... I don't want to be a nagging voice like that. I'm sorry. I just... you take such good care of all of us. I don't want to see you neglect yourself along the way. So... I guess I just want to make sure you're being taken care of too?"

He stared at the deck for a few seconds before continuing.

"An...Anyways, as I was saying, I have something for you. This ring. It seems like it fits you."

It took Anita a bit to fully process the information presented to her, and once she finally did it was hard for her to hide her disbelief of her current situation. 'Absurd quest' was right! However, that didn't change the fact that she owed these people her life for saving her from a fate worse than death, at least in her eyes it was anyway.

"Well, that's quite the lofty goal you have... no disrespect of course."

"But anyway! With a goal like that you need all the help you can get. And the way I see it, you and your group saved me from something worse than death. The least I could do is lend you my talents."

"I see. Well then, welcome aboard. Both figuratively and literally."

Diana gestured to Farris's ship.

"I'll extend you the same offer as my other companions: you can travel with me as far as you'd like, and I'll appreciate your support, but if you ever want out you're free to go. I recommend you talk to some of the others and get a feel for our group."

Ceil only smiled in response.
: "Only joking, Brann. Really, you've been a great help. It's a far cry from long ago, where the only advice I would get is where the next patients are."

The sister angled her head when Brann mentioned a ring.
: "Hmm? Now where did you get that, I wonder? Are you planning something for someone?" She mused, apparently she didn't hear the last part of Brann's mutterings.
