"Really."

He cracked a smile at her, in an attempt to make it seem less like he was lying.

"See? Everything's fine."

Ursa was gaping at the magnificent walls of the capital city.

: "Ursa see trees smaller than walls. Princess will be safe here!"

Diana nodded, unsure, to Brann before turning her attention to Ursa.

"I had heard Uljifan had truly impressive defenses, but to actually see them for myself... I wonder what the view is like from the top of the mountain behind the castle?"

The big man eyed the mountain ((or thought about it, if he can't see it from here)). He realized that he could probably climb it, no problem.

: "Good question. Ought to go see it after Princess meet with local pack leader. Might be good place for axe training."

"Oh, do you think so? We should ask around about it - see if it's too dangerous, or if there are trails, things like that. If not, we can probably use their training grounds. I doubt they would object much."

Diana was mildly excited and scared to be starting training with an entirely new weapon/style of combat... but she had asked Ursa, and she wasn't going to go back on her word. Besides, she had seen him fight. She was sure he could teach her, and that she could learn it. She just hoped no one ended up getting hurt during the training.

"Er, Ursa? Are we going to be using... real axes for training?"

: "No! Well, Ursa will, but Princess might hurt self and that would be sad."

: "'Sides, Ursa only have one axe."

: "But no worry! Ursa already thought of that and know what to do for training."

: "Er...probably not. Never had student before, just make it up as Ursa go along. Princess probably has good idea already."

: "That second lesson. First gotta teach Princess how to swing axe without losing fingers or toes."

If Diana was joking, Ursa didn't catch it.

"Haha... good one, Ursa!"

She was certain he was joking.

"But yes, that's an important first step. One must learn to walk before they can run."

"Indeed. Though I imagine an axe can't be much different from how I use a sword."

Diana tended towards wide swings and heavy, crushing slashes already.

"That makes sense. Generally, the weight of a sword is balanced between the center and the guard, while an axe would be entirely in the blade. And you would have less control over it for that reason, but the momentum and weight in the blade make it more efficient at cutting through armor..."

She thought she was starting to grasp some of the fundamental differences, but it would require real physical practice too.
