Diana walked forward to hail the gates.

"Good day to you! Is anyone there?"

Oscar leaned toward the Princess, still feeling a little grumpy about how little of the fleeing bandits he did manage to shoot down.

"They've already allied with Exsten and are debating if to kill us outright or capture and send as gifts to Exsten." He grinned creepily and then looked at the gate.

"Just pointing out a possibility, heh."

A small figure up atop the wall points a crossbow at the princess. A moment later it is lowered again hastily as conversation filters down to the ground below.

"And just what the hell do ye think you're doin' lad?"

"Well sir, they're armed, I thought they might be an Exsten advance force-"

"They'd not bloody well announce themselves ye git! Besides, do they seem to be flying Exsten colors to you?"

"Well no, but-"

"Then they're likely refugees you stupid boy!"

"But sir, they're armed-"

"Oh, so you think me blind then you little shit? Not all of our citizens are unarmed you fool! Go patrol the western wall!"

"Yessir..."

The figure with the crossbow trudges away. A second figure leans down over the top of the wall.

"Good day to you as well lass! I apologize for my subordinate's rudeness. Where are ye from and what do ye seek?"

"My name is Diana Durhiel, daughter of King Drahool! My father told me to come here; I apologize for being many days late. These people are my personal guard."

Diana gestured around the group, even including Lucas who she barely knew.

Tyrn whispered to Diana

"Princes are you sure it's wise to be telling your name so freely?"

"That so? I trust ye'll not mind waiting a titch longer your highness, I'll have to send an envoy to the castle. Please wait where ye are." The man backed away from the ledge and disappeared from view.

Diana turned to Tyrn.

"Even though we're late, they should be expecting us. And if so then it is better to have a chance to appeal to the nobility directly rather than enter under false pretenses and muddle around."

Diana touched the soldier's upper arm for a moment.

"I know you're looking out for me, Tyrn, and I do appreciate it."

"Good time to mention nothing stops them from thinking you are also lying. I am just saying that because of your new hairstyle and your attire."

Diana pointed at her hair.

"Minor details in appearance may change, but my hair color is hereditary. As for the rest, we will see."

Brann stayed at the back of the group, quietly waiting the chance to enter the city. He was displeased with how his last tow battles had ended. He needed to be better at staying up, being able to fight through the wounds. Not get knocked down as soon as he attacked. A frown had been stuck on his face for most of the trip, and still was. He needed to get better.

Diana had turned around to look at her allies while she spoke, and now she noticed Brann frowning behind everyone else.

"Is something wrong, Brann?"

Brann winced slightly when he got called out. "Ah, no, everything's fine. Just... yeah, fine. Don't worry about me."

Diana sighed and rubbed the back of her neck.

"...I can't help but worry about the people around me. If something's wrong, you can tell me."

Brann shrugged.

"I'm fine. No need to worry about me. You've got the whole continent to worry about it seems. No need to let one little frown from me throw you off course."

"If you're certain."

Brann didn't seem to want to talk about it, so Diana decided to not press him and possibly upset him further.
