Herr Gamel:
"Now that ve finally are in Alfjord, I vill focus on making updating our map of the Hillmen's lands. We must haff good information if we are to conduct a war. I vill continue to pose as a hunter and bribe one of the local merchants to tell me all about the land and the tribes. You," he says, looking at Alexis, "should focus on learning of their forces, and perhaps on sabatogue if you get a chance. If you need anything of me, be certain to ask!"

The day after he was tasked with the army, Raeric returned to the king with a scroll. He bowed, as usual, and explained its contents.

"Your Highness, it saddens me to say that... We have no military to speak of. Our rabble would not hold an hour against an hillfolk army. Still, I have something in mind for them. I believe can turn them in real soldiers despite our numerous limitations, but they will still need a minimum of equipment. Here, I've detailed what would be needed - a spear, a wooden shield, an axe, and leather armor for each of our soldiers. I would, of course, prefer swords and steel shields and armor, but we simply cannot afford it. Do you think we can spare the expense to at least buy this?"

Looking at the hunter for a moment Alexis growled.

"Don't tell me how to do my job hunter, you already lost my entire party and led us half way across the land for nothing.

I know how to do my job.

Slipping behind a nearby building then Alexis swiftly removed her armour and after strapping her blades to the inside of her dresses sleeves within easy reach of her hands she pulled the rough tribal dress on and adjusted it slightly so that it would draw attention to her figure.
Letting her hair down then she rubbed a little dirt onto her face to give the impression of being down on her luck and having avoided eating and drank very little in the previous three days the result was a highly attractive young woman who gave the clear appearance of being very down on her luck, though in actual fact she was strong and fit as ever having trained for this very role along with every sister of her order.

Nodding to herself at the disguise she then set off towards the tribal leaders abode and arrived at it a short time later, bowing before them nervously she intentionally bowed just low enough to allow a glimpse beneath her dress before speaking and smiled inwardly at the clear look of lust that came to the guards face.( What is it exactly? A palace? A big hut? Great hall? I'm guessing it's the big central building in any case. )

Please sir, I need to speak to the chief, I have no money and nobody to care for me and I'm so hungry.... I didn't know where else to go.

Deciding to take a chance she then looked down submissively before the guard and added meekly.

If the chief doesn't help me I have nowhere to sleep and I can't afford any food or water.... if he refuses me would you take me in please... though I have only one thing to offer in payment.

Still looking down she felt the guards gaze flowing over her body then let out a weak sigh as he allowed her to enter and a short time later she knelt before the chief keeping her eyes low as she gave him a clear view of what lay beneath her dress then In a quite nervous voice began to speak.

Please chief I have nowhere else to turn, my family were all killed in a raid by savages of another tribe and I barely escaped them.

Shuddering then she began to cry softly.

They did horrible things to my mother and my sister....

Her voice cracking on the word sister she fell silent for a few moment taking great heaving breaths before continuing.

She was only 12 chief..... and I can still hear her begging for mercy as I fled and those saves laughing as they took her.

Looking up for a moment to reveal her face covered in tears she quickly finished.

I have nowhere else to go... and so I beg you chief to take me in....

Looking down again then in a voice thick with hopelessness she finished speaking.

I'll give you anything you want... though I only have one thing left to offer.

Attempt to woo the chief with the sad story, submissive behaviour and attractiveness. ( I'm guessing my +1 as spy master still counts for this? Since acting skills and being good at tricking people are essential parts of being a spy. )

The darkness was eternal, all-powerful, unchangeable.
She had stared into it for to many years, alone and unblinking, determined that it would not take her.
Now it never would.
Now she was lighting a candle.

"I'd like to point out, my liege, that if we hadn't gone to antagonize them our current state of the military wouldn't be such an issue..."

The glance Raeric sent in the mage's direction was disdainful.

"Would you rather let us be bullied by hillfolk, mage? Left at the mercy of mere cattle raiders and petty warlords? What are we going to do if a threat - a real, tangible threat with disciplined armies and more soldiers than we could ever hope to muster - comes up? We cannot allow ourselves to become some other nation's puppet state."

Once Alexis departs, Herr Gamel scoffs to himself in his native tongue at the Spymaster's behavior,

"Hah. For all their talent with those knives, only she could keep up in the wilderness. I suppose there is at least that much to be thankful for."

Carrying on, Edgar seeks out the pelt-buyer and settles in for a good round of haggling. He thinks to himself:

"First, an offer of the remaining pelts, given at a favorable rate to convince the man I am a fool. Then, I bring out one of the rings, and offer it in exchange for information on the lay of the land. Tell him there is more where that comes from, if he can lay out all the good hunting trails, trading posts and villages for me. It is the perfect plan!"

Bribe the Pelt Trader with Pelts and the Jewels in exchange for Information about the Hillmen's Lands.

E: If it matters at all, this is what I'm interested in in order of importance:
1. The names of the six Hillmen tribes.
2. Their dispositions toward outsiders.
3. Their dispositions toward the other tribes.
4. The location of the capitals of the Hillmen tribes.
5. The location of any smaller Hillmen villages.
6. Trails, paths, etc. leading through the Hillmen lands.

"Oh, of course. But we can rebuild more in the greater time before conflict, so that we would be stronger when the war starts. Postulating that there is a war, of course, as seems to be inevitable at this point..."

"No. I would rather attempt to make peace with the hillfolk. Peace is beneficial to both sides...and, worst comes to worst, we can wage war at a different date. Recall that my original plan involved not acceding to their demands, as well..."

Greetings, High King.  I am Korgoth, the leader of a large mercenary band that has now wondered into your lands.  I hear you're having trouble with some hillmen?  My men would gladly be of service.  We have excellent heavy-infantry, superior cavalry, and griffin riders to spare.  We come with our own supply wagons of course, and we take the majority of our pay in upkeep and pillage rights.  Do you need our services?

On a related note, shall I open an OOC thread for this?
I vote nay. Most interplayer discussion is done in-character, and that's how it should be.
Of course, go ahead if you wish. There are exceptions.

I will, of course, offer my services to other courtiers in this court while waiting for my appointment with the king.  I have several accomplished disciples with... Unique abilities.  If you have unusual problems that you want to disappear, PM me.

(At some informal time:)
"I know an unusually stupid swordswoman. Could you cause that to disappear? ...To clarify, I mean the stupidity, nonlethally, and as a joke."
