It's going to take a few days to get the books, but I am going to study them when I get them.

Well, got the books today.  Turns out, one covers all the information the other does, so the amount of stuff I have to read just got halved, so I will be able to get to working on this sooner.  Or I would, if not for the fact that I got a job from my neighbors to clear out the brush that has overgrown around their garage, so that may increase the amount of time.  Oh well, at least for the latter I get money.

Also, just for everyone's information.  This isn't going to be turn-based.  It will be in real-time.  Expect Chaos.

Hmmm well if your open to it here are links to some other dragon games, for reference:

http://www.maxgames.com/game/dragon-conquest.html

http://www.maxgames.com/game/how-to-raise-a-dragon.html

They are both pretty basic, but also fun and they might give you some ideas.

The first lets you start a dragon, then fight other dragons in different areas, then you level up, rinse, repeat.

Second you might have played before but yeah it starts you from a hatchling and then you explore through different periods of the dragons life, last stage has you play a "hero" to kill/befriend/bribe the dragon. Fairly interesting.

Also if/when you have this available for testing I would be glad to do so :P

First thing I need to do is to get the friggin' additional libraries working.  I swear, they keep referencing things that don't even exist in the files!

If you are still taking name suggestions, how about "How to Play a Dragon"?

Really, I'm probably going to leave it as 'Unnamed Dragon Game' for now.  I'll look back through the suggestions later.

I am ready to start screaming in rage.  I've tried three different libraries, and none of the tutorials are working, except for the first one (lib-something-something-something, I have a link in the first post.), and that one doesn't have any tutorials past getting the accursed sprite moving!  The other tutorials are failing, because they are using tags, that according to eclipse don't even exist!  What the!?!

I don't think you need any libraries in Java. My brother programs in Java, and his game uses the standard library.

He says to create the window with jframe and then put a jpanel into it. And to override the drawing function( paintcomponent ) of the jpanel.

It's a case of expanding what java already has within it without necessitating me having to write up an entire engine with my very meager knowledge.

I've actually found an engine by the name of Janon I am going to use, since it is a) small enough for my meager knowledge to deduce its workings, b) sprite-based (I'm just going to skip the rougelike step, and get it over with, since it is going to be in that form anyway.(I'm going to need someone to help with the sprites, though, so I can focus on getting it running. [Credit will be given - I'll give the specifics of what I am looking for if anyone shows interest])), and c) it doesn't have random errors that the others did cropping up.

Yeah, the offer for the credit to be put into the game in exchange for sprite work will need to be revoked...and changed over to an offer for someone to design all of the graphics for the game, and if this game is ever sold, has money donated for, or some other method, then you would get an even share of the proceeds.  This is not going to be a first-come, first-served offer.  I'm going to select based upon the merit of your work.  Naturally, this means that you are going to need to post a few images for me to consider, and it would need to be over the same subject, for simpler judgement.  So with that in mind, anyone whom wants this position needs to provide five separate images (idling, downward movement, upward movement, left movement, and right movement) for the (temporary) player character dragon graphic that will be used for testing until I work on the create-a-character coding.

Well, I can't gaurantee that this will work, because I completely screwed up my computer's method of opening .jar files a while back and I cannot fix it.  That said, here is a horribly basic version of the game to prove that yes, I am working on it.  The background is going to be removed, eventually, and the dragon graphic will be replaced.  Controls are WASD.

Should be the link to the game
