And to pre-empt the question, yes Geno is owned by Square Enix, thus his inclusion would mean a Third Party Character

In Sakurai's own words his status is unknown and they don't know the legality of using him again. As well he is as much a "third party" as Sora is for Squarenix. It is why some people describe characters like Geno and Sora as 2.5 Party characters (or 2nd party characters)

I certainly do want Geno, I just don't think he has a chance.

Brawl was pretty much the last chance.

Usually it's fair to treat such middle ground as Developer Ownership. It's the same reason about half of the Characters in DK64 are considered Rare's property.

Anyway, thought I should out my hopes for character changes

Removal of Lucas - While unlikely with Sakurai at the helm, Lucas really is a clone without a purpose, whose slot would work better with someone else (though I do like Lucas as a character).

Removal of Wolf, De-Cloning Falco - Star Fox really doesn't need 3 slots for variations of 1 character, and it would be nice if Falco became more unique

Further Decloning of Luigi and Ganondorf - Both deserve own movesets, not much else to say.

Ike -> Chrom - While difficult to incorporate Chrom's moveset to not be a clone of Marth's, it fits the natural progression that Pokémon may have with the Mewtwo slot.

Beyond that, I really don't have an opinion on who should be added to the roster.

Huh actually it would be interesting if they swapped out Lucario back for Mewtwo again and integrated that new form he's gained in Gen 6

Ganondorf is in a odd position. Certainly he should be decloned but his current clone moveset is far too popular to make the change.

It is why I don't think they are going to change him up.

Some people have suggested that they include Black Phantom (I cannot remember the actual name) from F-Zero to take Ganondorf's clone moveset so that Ganondorf can finally have his own signature moveset based on him depiction within the games.

Black Shadow for the character, but to be honest I don't expect much from F-Zero. It's the weakest series in Brawl (with perhaps the exception of Game and Watch in modernity).

It would be an inclusion purely so to preserve a moveset and not to give F-zero more representation.

---

Hmm I hope they either patch the exploit/glitch moves or make them official features this round through.

I realize that Sakurai doesn't remove them simply because he doesn't care about competitive play and no casual player uses them... But dear goodness Sakurai either patch them up or take them out. They clearly break the very rules of the game.

To be fair Ike actually behaves exactly like Marth in his respective Fire Emblem title, so they are not against completely changing fighting styles.

I liked Wolf. He was much more different from Fox than Falco was, with significantly more weight and impact.

Megaman makes a lot of sense to me. Certainly a lot more sense than the Wall-E robot from Brawl. Even more sense than Mr. Game & Watch. I think characters from any era have a good shot. It's not like Nintendo has released very many brand new franchises in the past couple years.

The "Wall-E robot" was ROB, one of the first peripherals for Nintendo consoles and arguably one of the coolest and most unique. Shame he faded into obscurity until Brawl brought him back.

He was also the only reason the NES was sold in the U.S at all and single-handedly saved the entire American video game industry.

You'd better FUCKING APPRECIATE IT :P

After the video game crash, stores were too afraid to sell video game systems out of fear of them never selling, so Nintendo packaged ROB with the NES so that they could market it as a toy instead.

Yeah, now everytime we can't navigate a PC game's UI, we'll be reminded of ROB.

Also I thought nothing saved the industry and it was just that the industry recovered on its own.

Nintendo might not have single-handedly saved the video games industry, but they probably came close. The NES was pretty much the only console on the market after the crash. The previous console makers had either dropped out of the business or released consoles that barely had any market share. Out of the 40+ console makers (probably exagerating a bit, but it was a stupidly high number) Atari is the only company I can think off the top of my head that make consoles after the crash. The near monopoly of the NES also allowed Nintendo to set incredibly strict regulations with their third-party developers (which would bite them in the ass when the N64 came along and everyone jumped ship to the PS1).
