It's a side feature. The fact that people can use a tablet to fly a helicopter affects this game less than the fact that Puzzle Pirates will soon be playable on tablets. And nobody sane has been raging about the latter.

A glass/plastic screen really isn't that hard to clean. They also probably sell screen guards in common tablet sizes too.
