Oh, uh, totally missed the second part of that. In Homestuck terms, Diamond is like a soulmate, but platonically, not romantically.

<> is a platonic relationship in which you basically keep the other person sane, keep them from harming themselves or others, and are, as SC said, essentially soul mates.
c3< is a three way relationship in which one party keeps the other two from destroying each other.
<3< is completely hateful passionate hatelust.
