As far as I'm concerned, this is the only realistic way out. They DO want to capture Diana - whether to execute her or marry her off to the prince of Exsten (assuming there is one and not a princess ) so they can claim Durhiel easily, don't know which but Diana assumes the former - and this way lets them do so with no further bother (or so they think, until we hopefully break out ) and gives them brownie points for being the ones to get her. On our side, we all get to live to fight another day WITHOUT a Deus Ex Machina.
