Evidently you can turn off and on certain songs, but it's in the Madden Messenger menu, and not the game settings menu. For some incredibly stupid reason.

At least I have some orchestral stuff that's related to football now.

Shadows of Mordor

Speaking of which : I hate games where its impossible to lose like Shadow ...
Sometimes its countered by the game overall awesomnes like in GTA 5, but more often it totally ruins the game for me :/

Permadeath is more the exception than the norm. I mean in most games you could technically lose by giving up, but otherwise you're just reloading a save and trying again.

Im not talking about permadeath.

Permadeath has its uses, it fits for rougelikes where there is no plot, where gameplay emerges from the actions of player and world reacting to those actions etc.

Im talking about stuff like FREQUENT checkpoints tied with one save slot, no penalties for fucking up, dying or failing some quests, no need for resource conservation, no way to fail.

Look at Shadow of Mordor - you lose NOTHING if you die, you just respawn at the nearest checkpoint, you cant even get careless by not saving for a while and being forced to repeat some portion of the game because you died. Combat system is so trivial, forgiving and extremely easy that you can play without looking at a fucking screen. AI is completely retarded which makes sneaking .... well trivial. Even small stuff like the fact that you cant die by falling from great height because "magic".

Spoiler (click to show/hide)

Oh and by the way, before anyone points that out : i dont care about how justified it is because my hero is "wraith" , "chosen one" or some other crap like that.
Playing something you cant lose is pointless.

To be fair, if you bring your character to max level and unlock every powerful ability, EVERY game is extremely easy. If you watched someone play Pokémon with a full 100-level legendary team going around fighting normal trainers, you would think that is trivial too.

And by the way, "gameplay emerges from the actions of player and world reacting to those actions etc." is the way one sums up the Nemesis System.
It may not be perfect (far from it), and it's quite basic, but it's the first major attempt to do exactly that as a big feature in a AAA game (maybe not, if I'm missing something like this tell me).

The Nemesis System was just a way to say "we're not actually Batman: Arkham Mordor."

I don't think the basic combat system in Shadow of Mordor was broken; it just had a few aspects that were absolutely broken by themselves, like complete invincibility while rolling and executing, and the ability to counter at any time.

In most games, giving a player anything but a very small number of invincibility frames is basically asking to have them abused.

But yeah, a lot of games do an awful job with difficulty.

On the Phantom Pain, there isn't really much gameplay story segregation. The score you get isn't part of the story, and is meant to be a challenge. Not being able to use certain pieces of equipment is a part of that challenge.
On Shadow of Mordor, it really is too easy. I got it a few weeks ago, and it just felt boring. Gameplay felt shallow, boring, had little challenge, and the nemesis system didn't really do anything for me.

Isn't the real problem with open world action games like Mordor, Just Cause, Far Cry, is that they focus on telling a linear narrative? Losing isn't as compelling if it means having to sit through the same story missions all over again in a game that's supposed to let you do anything.

I will defend it only in that it is by far the best "rating board" ever created.

They even have to outright justify their ratings and are by large and afar fair... Even to the point where they don't consider "Homosexual themes" to increase the rating of the film like the film board does.

I would rather everyone else copy them... then for it to go away.

Or rather...

ESRB needs to be patched. The Film board needs to be demolished and rebuilt.

Games that give you the option to do so many evil things, but make you do the right thing in the end.

In all fairness. Games that give you the option to do evil things it usually amounts to
-Psychotically selfish
-Just plain Psychotic
-Suicidal

and that is excluding
-Being an unlikable ass... as in unlikable even to the player (The Infamous method... that Watch_dogs copied)

---

I actually KIND of like the idea the Overlord 2 game had (not the execution mind you) where you could be one of two types of villains.

You could either mind control everyone into being your unwilling slave... OR you could slaughter everyone leaving only your imps to rule the world.

Yet even that game kind of made the main villain... more villainous then you are.

I mean heck just imagine a game where your a villain but ultimately what KIND of villain you are is ultimately up to you.
