((Summary: Minor embarrassing granddad moment. Matt character development and a little on how he views Selina and Maria. Also proposed to George the idea of George and his mom helping Angel... and Yuri. Whilst Matt is caught up up till the train ride with the portals, nothing hidden, such as most of the interaction with Rhad, was caught by George. He got... distracted.))
Matt came back with several bruises and a few burn marks from the basement. ''They like to put you through your... *cough* paces... don't they?''
''Ah, hahahaha, wot wot, yes!'' George jumped and was surrounded by portals of sight, some at... odd angles to females.
''...'' Matt was not amused, but walked in regardless. ''Alright, personal time over. What did you fi-''
''THIS!'' Matt was cut off as a portal was shoved in Matt's face showing Selina's t-shirt, with the obvious focus of the chest area. Matt went bright red.
''Echichichi- For goodness sakes!'' Matt put a hand on the portal to move it, but it merely slipped through.
''Hah, enjoyed that feel?''
''What feel?''
''Pulling your leg!'' George skipped over to Matt. ''Lots to catch you up on. Your group is definitely the most dysfunctional yet functional group I've ever met, seen or even heard of or dreamed!''
''Sounds like them...''
Over the course of that train trip, George caught Matt up with most of what had happened.
''So... you're telling me that Angel needs her... soul strengthened to keep untainted from Nuriel?''
''Yep!''
''So... you and my mom could do that!'' Matt offered his idea.
''Well yes, that's true. Getting your mom from the hospital at this time will be hard, but it is possible.''
''And Yuri too?'' George stopped for a second.
''That is a demon on a completely difference scale. I'm not sure how that'd work. It's possible that it might. My soul generation has never even been tested, despite looking after the souls of hundreds of my family members, but, it might not even work that way, Matt, my boy.'' Matt looked a little down.
''It just seems she has it so hard. No romantics, no sight despite not being blind, working for a ambitious family... If I could just... give her her sight and no fear from Demon's Run, I'd... well...''
''Still wishing to make a difference to others at any opportunity eh?''
''Well... it's... my nature. If I see that I may help someone, why shouldn't I try?'' George gives a hearty laugh.
''Right you are! That's the spirit that your parents are most proud of. I'll see what me and your mom can do. Even if it requires multiple stints... when we get time. That's one commodity not in our favour right now. Layars will attack at some point, and unfortunately, your dad's pre-occupied with another emergency which leaves us with less magical form fighters for the Layar invasion. Oh, he sends a message by the way, I totally forgot.''
Matt perked up. ''A message from dad?''
''Yeah. Here we go!'' George picks up a piece of paper. ''He says, if you ever find a rip that leads to that warhammer 40,000 universe, do NOT go in.''
''Not rocket science. That kind of thing only works in games.'' Matt said without a changing face.
''... huh...''
''What?''
''You sounded like a character in one of my favourite shows...''
''That a good thing?''
''Yeah, sure, why not. He got a harem too!'' Matt got a little bashful and self-conscious.
''They'll have probably moved on from me in their hearts...'' George gave a disapproving look, but Matt didn't notice. He thought about it for a second. ''Well... maybe Maria hasn't...'' He recalled how they had some closeness. He was glad that she and Selina had each other to rely on. ''Guess I should hope they can move on from me.'' He gave a smile to George with a promise on his face. ''I'd rather die again than see either one harmed.''
''Really?'' George looked in a little closer. ''You go on about being stronger despite being a strong fighter already. Do you fear losing them?''
''... More than I care to think about.'' Matt answered honestly. ''I don't think... I could go through what they have. I'm not as strong as them...'' Matt shivered a little, George relaxed, and put a hand to his shoulder.
''I know you are, but as a man, you will always feel obliged to protect them, and that's a good thing. Though they are both incredibly capable of defending themselves, ahem, it's not a sexist thing it's...''
''It's ingrained that the guy defends the girl.'' Matt smiled. ''It may not be as applicable now, but it's always been that way before and the guys don't want to lose that status. One thing I've learned from observing people all those years is that guys need that ego that they're the mighty shield for the girl.''
''Hmmm... Is that why you like Selina?''
''Huh... eh...'' Matt was taken aback, before thinking on it. ''I... well... when I look at her... I... kinda... I want to look after her. But I'd love to see her grow into someone that can stand on her own two feet eventually.'' Matt looked pensive. ''Maria's different, she already does... almost too much. I want her to... rely on me even if it is just sometimes.''
''Man, I forgot how complicates harems were... and yours it twice as bad as mine. Mine didn't even know they were in one until I eventually told them I'm parting from them in that regard.'' George smiled. He noted Matt was once again, finding what he wanted. If he can be sure of himself, he will be a greater asset.
