"Yup, it's my first sleepover! And Kyle, being the only of something qualifies you as weird. And don't think of Connie like that! Uh, Mom, Connie's Selina's little sister."
Angel hung up, relayed the address, and grabbed some clothes and books while Angel's mother informed her father of the new development. They headed out, Angel realizing that she wasn't tired at all. Hm. Transforming from Nuriel to my normal form seems to be quite restful. Far more than it would be if I was fully cognizant of what she--
"So...Angel, um...I thought I remembered something you had said before you mentioned the sleepover and such."
"Spending time with Selina tomorrow?"
"No, before that...being the...Nuriel person?"
"Oh. Yeah, that is me..."
"Um...do you have to do that?"
"I guess...you know what Ben Parker said, right?"
"I knew I'd rue the day I approved that birthday gift..."
"The Marvel encyclopedia has provided an amusing diversion from my typical nonfiction."
"Well, yes, but...you're five years old! A five-year-old shouldn't be going about, blowing up houses--"
"I didn't blow it up."
"--Still, though--"
"I was trying to stop the ones who did."
"...What?"
"There's a bunch of magical alien things invading. I need to help stop them."
"..."
"Mother, stop sign..."
"...You're telling me that you are planning to risk your life against these--"
"Mom, they need everyone they can!"
"It's a problem for the military, not a bunch of little girls!"
"Everyone else is older than me!"
"...Selina's one of them, too, isn't she?"
"Um, no!"
"Angel, you are many things, but you are not a good liar."
"...Okay. Yeah, she's magic too."
"Why am I letting you sleep over at her house? For all I know, you're planning to just go off and fly away to some suicidal mission combating--you are, aren't you?"
There was a pause. Angel felt uncomfortably warm all over. She wondered briefly what was going on, then recognized the feeling from recently.
"I'm blowing this popsicle stand. Whatever that's supposed to mean."
Nuriel grabbed Angel's things, tugged on the car door's handle, unlocked the door, tried to hop out, undid the seatbelt, smacked Angel's mother, and finally leapt out into the night.
After trying three houses, Nuriel went to the correct house.
"Hey, Selina. I think Angel might be in trouble tomorrow. 'Sup with your 'rents?"
