I think that any sort of "accident" is highly unlikely at this juncture, both because the leak has already been made (rendering moot the goal of attempting to prevent it), and because he opted for full disclosure, which was quite wise, really, as it makes it more difficult for him to be eliminated without anyone noticing. I agree with Sir Finkus, that Slate article was rather insightful; the primary avenue by which the NSA could have attacked his character would also reflect badly on them, and apart from that he appears to have had good intentions and acted as responsibly as a leaker can.
