Creating a Forum Game and Game World:
« on: June 09, 2013, 05:13:29 pm »

A work in progress:

I've often thought about creating a really nice forum game. Here's the general gist so far.

You are a dwarf or group of dwarves and are settling a new area. The following would be game ideas.

I.) World
A.) Geography (Maps and notable features, individual cities and perhaps buildings)
B.) History and Cultures (Former and Current)
C.) Nations (Former and Current)
D.) Organizations (Regional, National, International), (Economic, social, military, cultural)
E.) Religions and Cults
F.) Notable Figures

II.) Materials and Substance
A.) Individual materials and where they are found, such as wood (Perhaps by type), and ore/stone.
B.) Plants and Uses
C.) Buildings and Excavations (and necessary mapping with descriptions)
D.) Vehicles
E.) Crafted Items (including armor and weapons)

III.) Systems
A.) Mining
B.) Construction
C.) Resource Gathering
D.) Farming
E.) Crafting
F.) Diplomacy and Trade
G.) Combat
H.) Races (Species)

IV.) Individual Stats and Character

V.) Posting and Player Mechanics

I suspect the greatest challenge is going to be mapping. Striking a balance between graphics and ease of editing/customization is going to be a trick. Pictures may be saved on an external site and posted on a forums game thread once that becomes an issue. Unsure how many players, if suggestion etc, or other features. This is to consider developing those.

I.) World B.) History and Cultures Ancient History (Preliminary, mapping to be added later).

This is basically to serve as the founding of several other civilizations and future nations/groups. Some may stretch into history and into the present day, others may become extinct, absorbed into other cultures or basically grow.

a.) Dwarven Civilizations

Overall Dwarven Origins: Where and when Dwarves not precisely known. Approximately XXXXXXX years ago in [Year] [Number] Dwarven realms began to record their existence and those records have survived to date.

1.) Dol Bervinus (Roughly Translated: Place of Bervinus). Bervinus Mathil was an ancient Dwarven leader of Clan Mathil (Mammoth) and later its king ([birth year] - [death year]). Bervinus's early life was defined by hunting and gathering as his clan had always done. The Dwarves sustained themselves largely upon biannual mammoth migrations through the valley where their natural cave homes were located. Bevinus revolutionized his clan's hunting methods by creating copper and metal hunting implements. The introduction of more efficient hunting implements led to advantages in warfare and mining as well.

Located in the [general area] [specific area] [direction] of the [feature].

The oldest recorded Dwarven realm, has managed to stay in existence to this day. Though other splinter groups of dwarves exist, several modern Dwarven commonalities in culture and other aspects trace their origins back to Dol Bervinus.

b.) Elven Civilizations

1.) Forea

Forea elves masterfully integrated into Waren Swamp, as few could. Their buildings, economy, and culture revolve around and within it. Economically, elves trap insects to feed livestock, raise fish, tend floating gardens, and cultivate waterborne plants. Culturally, elves live both above and below water in resin strengthened reed structures often anchored to waterborne trees. Forea Elves have no fear of invasion, because few, if any, could occupy their territory. Domestically, boat travel is common. Foreign travel often uses larger ships, or occasionally very cautious caravans.

Forea Hisotry

Seeing as there is an overabundance of insects in the swamp, it is a common sight to see a Forea Elf harvesting insects for livestock feed (including but not limited to frogs of various types).

The elves generally live in [number] different types of structures. As one might suspect of elves, they often live in trees, here, well above the waterline. As one might not suspect, the Forea elves also have structures below the water in airtight buildings composed of several layers of plant matter including giant leaves, several resins, wood fibers and numerous other materials.

c.) Human Civilizations
Matev Civilization

Concal Civilization

Originally from a continent across the [direction] sea.

Early History:
The Concal were first known as the Calvonic, a race from a continent across the [direction] sea. It is unknown if the Calvonic Nation, now largely a arid region, originally supported more than a hunter gatherer society, though it is speculated that it did. At some point in Concal history, there was a great civil war. In the midst of this

Tivic Civilization

Beginning geographic feature: The lands between and around the Jacil River and the Ficil River.

Beginning of civilization. Gathering of grape farmers under a local warlord
