If I were you, I would look into energy-based physical barriers. Once you have a barrier that is as durable as its energy supply, then you can get onto all sorts of fun stuff like effectively invulnerable detonation chambers for projectile weapons, antimatter/grey-goo containment, prison cells that can't be filed away, and hiding your super-weapon under lava(I know not of this radiant heat thing of which you speak?)...

Lets build a underground bunker with room for more staff and a lab.

Then start work on genetic engineering an army of super soldiers.
 Experiment with cyborgs as well.

We might as well lay out plans for an orbital launch system so we can get our own satellite network up, but we will need income from somewhere to fund it. Maybe we should see if we can get a government grant to develop it?

We have engineers, right? If not, we need to hire some.

Hm. I would recommend building a small automated mining facility if there are any minerals present and basic manufacturing capabilities. We might get cut off from the outside world at any time due to natural disaster or our stupidity. In that vein, make some subterranean facilities for algae cultivation (emergency food source).

Communications Tower (Radar, Radio, and Satellite)
Headquarters (Offices mostly)
Fusion Reactor (Generating enough power for the entire island)
Bunker (5 levels)

i never knew building a super-advanced power generating fusion reacter would be so easy.

Try to tap geothermal power in the bunker. Can't hurt to have a secondary source.
