has anyone played far enough to get immigrants?

I'm guessing the immigrant doesn't bring an anvil this time.. otherwise.. what's the point of having that anvil at the start?

I had several hundred points.

I got immigrants on one of my forts. I was just messing around so started with play now instead of choosing what to bring. Non of them were a metalsmith, but they did have varying jobs. I think two of them were rangers then a peasant, followed by a farmer.

I think it might have something to do with the civilization you've chosen to start from.  I started one fort last night with a civilization that didn't have any booze or seeds selectable from the start.  I abandoned immediately after embarking, then chose a different civilization and started in the same area and was able to buy booze and seeds.

Haven't tested this thoroughly to see if that's really the issue yet.

There's no guaranteed free anvil from the immigrant this time. You can trade for one with the dwarves, though of course it is EXPENSIVE.

I get more stuff if only because of the limit on how many skills a dwarf can learn.  Was that in the previous version?  I'd rather spend more points on the dwarves (and the new personality traits) than bringing more wood and meat.

I agree that the starting anvil really unbalances things. I wonder if there's a way to make it where you can only sell the starting one for like 300 points, but buying another one costs the full 1000?

I'm kind of missing the ability to create superdwarves too, but I can see why their skills were limited from a realism standpoint...
