A surprisingly large amount of damage from a few beetles. Would have been pretty bad if they'd managed to kill someone in the first encounter.

no, would've been hilariously facepalm-worthy. I mean, a small group of small-to-medium beetles would LOGICALLY be a first-level encounter right?

No. I suppose there are similarities, but I'm fairly certain angry birds doesn't let me charge into a battalion of knights with a car made of circular saws.

Dwarmin has officially proved that good descriptive writing can trump combat maps.

Well, as much as I want to participate, I'm completely new to D&D.

So, uh, I guess count me in in the waitlist, and would someone explain the character sheet-stuff to me a bit more in-depthly? I have an idea of what I want my character to be like, but I don't know stuff like how many points I can allocate to my skills and what reasonable stats would be for a starting weapon and all that.

Technically, that was almost a CR2 encounter you guys just beat.

Since Morazin fireblasted the corpse, I thought most of the beetles would get roasted on the first try, and upped the numbers to compensate.

:X

@ShoesandHats: Well, at least half our current players are completely new to D&D as well. There's no shame in learning.

Tell me what sort of char you're interested in making and I'll walk you through it, time permitting.

Yeah, having at-will elemental attacks can probably skew the CR of encounters we face :/

Oh well, the Dragonfire Adept is cool enough of a class to put up with swarms of beetles trying to eat my face :P

Edit: Also minor derp Dwarmin; I don't actually speak Draconic(no int bonus, so no bonus languages beyond common) :P

I DO plan to fix that next level though, so you could probably handwave it off as I'm far enough along in my studies to make out the words

I appear to have magically grown a sword, my sole weapon being a glaive.

Here, I've got this. Go to the Players Handbook I and choose one of the classes from the section on it there.

I was kind of going for a light fighter, equipped with a sort of a mix between an axe and a sword, sort of like a Kukri, except scaled up. Or a Kopis/Falcata, if you're feeling fancy. I don't know is D&D allows for semi-custom kinda weapons, but I imagine it wouldn't be too hard to use. (Look here for reference, this guy is pretty informative on medieval weaponry in general, along with plenty of other things.) But, uh, back on topic...basically, a chainmail shirt and a heater shield. Mainly, I just don't know how allocating points into attributes works, but there's plenty of other things confusing about it.

I was hoping to give everyone bioware style kill-knives that only appeared in cinematics, but you ruined it. :I

Anyway, fix'd

@Shoes: We're pretty full up on basic fighters, though...

And here's the list of basic classes Remutha suggested in SRD form.

By your reckoning, you might like rogue or ranger?

Yeah, I noticed there were plenty of fighters already, and considered switching over to being a mage, but I kind of...blegh, whatever. I'm down for that. Spellcasters are generally my favorite class in games, so why not? I could also be a rogue-y man too, if we're full up on mages, too. I'll check that list out, too. Thanks.

Mages are a bit more complicated to learn, but not as bad as some would think.

Can I get Commander Shepard's insta-kill pistol instead then?

Anyway, a magic ring with spiders eyes on it. What do you guys think? Should i just jam the thing on or wait for it to be identified?

Do it! What could possibly go wrong? :P
Also, I'll split the gold I found between us. That'll be about 22 gold each, with 2 left over

So, uh, is there a kind of point-allocation system in terms of stats? The guide thing you linked me is a little bit impenetrable at parts, and it hasn't really helped me understand how to make a character at all.
