She just killed our daughter.

We ain't runnin.

Our daughter was merely part of an attempt to make us charge at her and lure us here. Therefore, best thing we can do is prevent such a plan from coming to fruition. After all, revenge is pretty pointless at this point.

On the one hand, discretion is the better part of valor.

On the other hand, this is the prologue.

This, I believe, means that we are likely to be killed horribly by her, this being the prologue and all.

Also, not sure that we have an attack that goes quite that far. Guess it'll have to be seen.

smart action: GTFO

in character action: two turns of attack-type actions, followed by blocking.

and I always prefer staying in character.

and yes, we need to try to deal as much damage as possible during those two turns.

Exactly! And this being the prologue (and her being some kind of evil big bad hopped up on Hero Souls) we probably couldn't escape her anyway. May as well go out like a hero!

The reason I suggest it is because our long-term survival probably hinges on learning as much of the combat mechanics as possible, as quickly as possible.

Do we actually have much of a character to be in, though, strictly speaking? I think we're still in the character definition stage.

I mostly want to see if we can run away and actually get away with it.

-1 to that, by the way.

Can range attacks really be MP-efficient, though? We're pretty much wagering on wiping her out in two turns with this.

Might be better to move forward first.

Or run. I'm slightly in favor of running, obvious prologue death aside.

I've played a VG with a plot that started this exact way, sans daughter killing. This complex, difficult thing where your survival depends on your speed and accuracy drawing runes on the bottom screen, and commanding a monter army. With multiple endings. Can't remember it's na, atm, but if this guy summons a dragon made of light we'll for sure know the whole plot. ;)

You're thinking of LostMagic and, while this is not really inspired by that, I can see the resemblance to its intro.

slice off that necklace

You cast SWORD BEAM, costing a point of MAGIC and forcing into being a weakened version of your blade. The attack flies into your foe but misses her necklace. She begins casting a spell.

Despite your best attempts at repeated SWORD BEAMS, the treacherous witch remains standing.

: "Why are you doing this!?"

: "Hehehe!"

YEE-OWCH! Pillars of fire explode the ground. You take massive damage and are knocked back. Luckily, your OBVIOUS HEROISM protects you from further harm.

: "This spell comes from your uncle, Elderan, the last Hero of Flame. With an infertile wife and thus no heir to pass on his title, I took his power and sealed it in the red gem."

You guard. The witch prepares another spell.

She disappears. Moments later, three floating, purple shades appear nearby.

: "Ooh, a trick from your niece, Milicent. Only twelve years old when I found her, she was the last Hero of Shadow this world will ever know. Come now, Alistair: you can only hit one of me. Which is it? Think carefully."

Attack the Red-purple shade!
absolutely not. look at the three shades more closely. the yellow one is different from the other two. the other two are floating, the yellow one is standing.

None of the above. The real her isn't visible.

And the Green one isn't looking at us, the other two are.

Nonetheless, I suspect a shell game. A rigged shell game, of course.

And the red one is the only one with eyes locked onto us.

The yellow and green are both staring blankly to the left, so Im assuming they're the shadow copies, while the red is looking at us, a pretty big difference.
