So what would happen, when the adults go missing at an orphanage so twisted it would have Tim Burton madly clawing at the walls trying to escape?

This game, apparently.

Our Darker Purpose is a 2d shooter, that looks a lot like Don't Starve while playing a lot like Binding of Isaac. The areas are much larger than BoI (and the view can scroll) and the premise is pretty familiar. Be surrounded by horrible things, dodge their attacks and the many level hazards with agility (or not), blast enemies with ever weirder powerups and marvel at how something this dark can be this fun.

Unlike BoI, with its very roguelike systems, permadeath and lack of straight up RPG stats, ODP IS a hardcore, persistent character RPG. The "students" (I don't know if you can only play the girl or not) get experience and buy skills from different discipline areas that are adorably named after the subjects they're no longer learning, like Math & Science, Social Studies, ect....

I haven't dug too deeply into the game details but there's plenty to be shown in their Kickstarter video. Oh yeah, that. It's 1/4 funded and has 22 days left to go, so the question is not really "If" but "how much?" will it succeed.

While I'm not terribly excited by the visuals as they relate to gameplay, stylistically it's right up my alley and sounds like it has some great music as well. While I doubt I'll back it, it's definitely on my radar for release.

Its kinda silly to complain that a friendly NPC isn't a well designed boss fight.

Whoa Nenjin, you are a genius at finding such gems. Also, at making me contribute to kickstarters...
You need some kind of an award for all this :D

Nice, I saw this on greenlight the other day and thought it looked clever.  Hopefully they get funded.

Thanks. Without RPS though, I'd probably have half as much to post about.

This thing barely squeaked in, but you will be able to play this thing sometime next year.

There's a decent gameplay video done by a youtuber that was linked on the front page. While he makes a lot of the same references I did in my post, this game is going to be of a different flavor than Binding of Isaac despite looking a whole lot like it. What made Isaac truly tick was the lack of RPG elements, leveling up, inventory, health potions and the like. It's what kept the gameplay edgy. This seems like it's going a much more traditional route. Kind of makes me think maybe permadeath isn't a thing.
