Hey guys a bit of an update - a backer suggested this idea and I thought it was great so here we go:

Hey guys - I previously posted about the project here -> http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=79623.msg4190082#msg4190082

But I wanted to create a separate thread for the Kickstarter and Greenlight campaigns - since eventually they'll end - but the above thread will continue on.

Anyway - I've been working on a space combat sim with real time strategy elements - the idea is that you can both fly ships and issue commands. I hope that this gives you guys a unique way to play, unseen in most space sims or strategy games.

The project (after 4 years) reached the stage where I feel good about showing it off to a wider audience and where I need crowd funding so I've launched the two campaigns.

This does bring back fond memories of Homeworld (1).
Oh gods the fun we had, turning off unit capping and trying to clash enormous fleets without crashing the pcs.

That trailer really looks awesome, good job.
It would be wonderful if you can make a game that is a cross between say, Homeworld's RTS, and X3-Series piloting / mission flying / trading.

Right now there are no unit caps and the Battle Editor (which lets you create your own maps/battles) is wide open so feel free to give it a shot and compare it to Homeworld and let me know :) Not only can you watch the AI - but you can also fly :)

One of the Stretch/Future goals is to add in the X type game play (which I love). Currently the main focus is combat/missions with the rts elements (warfare) - due to time (coding) and money (art) constraints. Either the Kickstarer funds/release funds or the (looong) timeline will make it possible.

Still working...still trying to push the true scale of space...more specifically being able to shoot a laser and have it curve around a star to hit an enemy that is on the other side...

But not to derail the topic, the game does look interesting, curious to see where the game goes.

Oh my god. Oh my god! I've been waiting since Homeworld for another homeworldesque game. It looks remarkably good for an one-man/small team game too.

not quite...think of mars being on the other side of the solar system as earth, fire near the edge of the sun and the gravity could curve the laser enough to potentially hit mars from earth, lasers do still take time to travel(about 20 minutes total so it would only be effective as an attack on a stationary object and that is assuming its a visible spectrum laser) and hence is effected by gravity...sure you might lose a bit of power as the laser clips the upper portion of the sun, but it is still possible...the difficulty in this isn't creating the system to allow for projectiles to curve by distance but in creating the system so that ships will know how to take said shots on their own and a system that allows both the large scale yet still requiring the preciseness for location based damage...
