So what I'm looking for has minimum interaction, but still I think it can be classified as a game.
Basically you read a text describing a crime, what the suspects have to say etc, and then you find the guilty party based on the clues. You then click on to find if you got it right, and hopefully get an explanation along with it.

The problem is that googling leads to a lot of flash games, and normal short stories (where they just tell you the killer in the end).
So I hope you fellow bay12ers can help me with this.

The best thing I've found that matches what I want is this:

and this, even though it involves clicking a crime scene, it's pretty much just text, you can't even walk the crime scene (which is good).

But these are monthly challenges and they don't keep an archive, you can only see the current and the previous one.

Probably not what you're looking for, but The Negotiator series of flash games came to mind. You have to ask the right questions to get the best outcome, some of them are based on murders.

This reminds me of Phoenix Wright, though that's kind of a ways off. There might be something in the hypertext and IF field, but I have pretty much no knowledge of their libraries.

I did some more googling and found this site, which is pretty much what I want.
No need to navigate crime scenes or interview people, just read and find who did it.

I've solved 3 now, they're pretty easy so far but there appear to be hundreds of them so it'll keep me busy for a while.
I don't like the timer so I've blocked it (thanks Firefox).

LA NOIR is exaclty as you describe it basically, also Carmen San Diego maybe?

Minimum interaction pretty much rules out LA Noire and Indigo Prophecy. Indigo Prophecy is also less of a detective game and more of an interactive story with a metric ass ton of QTEs.

Not to mention that the last half of Indigo Prophecy got so rushed, it was unable to explain the absurdly complex plot they insisted on keeping.  It's almost as if they tried to cram all of the X-Files into one episode.

A rogue AI?  Where they hell did that come from.  Was battling a resurgent Mayan doomsday cult with, with powers you received from the Roswell crash, and the aid of secret society of hobos, after you become a zombie, not complicated enough?  (No really, those are only some of the key plot points.)  Also, the endgame love story made no sense at all.  There was no flirting or even chemistry... and then they have sex for some reason... still as a zombie... and in the good ending they're apparently soulmates.

I don't know about Minimum interaction games (which actually doesn't completely rule out LA Noire and Indigo Prophecy tbh) but there are some good Mystery games which are 3rd Party styled out there, check your Bargain Bins in the local Gamestores. Not all are Puzzle Games, most have a little Point and Click moments and such with them...

I took minimum interaction to mean you're not going through dialog windows picking responses, doing QTEs, or shooting at people. And LA Noire and Indigo Prophecy are chalk full of that.

These are really terrible though. The only way to get a refund for your iron, for instance, is to tell her to do your laundry.
