I do believe there might be a problem with the fact that 2/3rds of the die mean failure at what you were trying to do. That's not really a good percentage at all, to tell the truth. It means that succeeding at anything in a non-minor way is rather difficult, or at least highly improbable. Not to mention that higher stats do nothing to mitigate this improbability in any way.

Yeah. If we were working on a D20 scale, that would mean the actual base difficulty class is around 13-14.

Damn.

Oh well. This combat system is not conducive to tactics at all. You fumble (screwing something up), succeed a little (usually 1-2 damage) or critical (disproportionately more damage).  Even my Warrens/LQ/MKW:FS system, as shitty as it is, allows better planning and risk management beyond "I hope this works because if not I'd better run."

That's really the only reason we were the worst mages at the start there. Because combat is designed to have things screw up or only barely have an effect most of the time.

gg
It's a variation on rocket tag, with the goal being the first to crit rather than the first to hit.

It's part of the system. It sucks, but it is...and it is in part because a lot of people don't have other  kinds of dice.

So, yeah. It's a neccesary annoyance.

It's not a matter of the dice themselves being inadequate. It's a matter of having half of it represent a boring, useless result, and another one sixth meaning bad things actively happen. That means the die, as it is currently assigned, is 50% boring and useless. Make a 2 a fumble as well and/or make a 4 be a success to shake things up, to make stuff happen. We're here to see stuff happen. Currently it's a lot of poking and being poked back until OH SHIT HIS HEAD EXPLODES all of a sudden. Would it really be detrimental to decrease the amount of useless poking happening?

Yeah, the system is kinda gimped in a lot of ways, mostly this was a test of the system to see how well it would work, looking back, I think that in order for it to work properly, people would have to have stats to roll dice in the double digits, at least, or severely change a lot of other things. The reason I use it is for the reason someone above stated that I don't like using dice other than 6-sided ones, because of the unavailability of other ones in case random.org goes down like it tends to do. I don't like DnD or other games like that that use ridiculously-sided dice.

When Chapter two starts when you guys leave the island, I think I'll do a massive overhaul of the system to make it more playable, since right now it has a rather huge amount of flaws. The way it works right now seems to be fun,(at least in my opinion) for the other RtD in this game universe, but a lot of combat in this game seems to be a lot of misses and ridiculous hits, like it's been mentioned, and it's neither fun for the players of for me.

Sorry for the lack of Updates, I've dealing with real life problems, and taking care of my sick wife. I'm not sure if I'll be able to update today or not, I might get the chance if I'm lucky.

Continue. Do I have to keep posting to continue actions because my ship is slow?
You keep going for the Dock at the tip. ((Nah, you'll make it there in about two turns, mostly just to give the other players time to finish off the bad guy and catch up.))

Glance at the spiders. Toss a Geode Strike at the greatest concentration of spiders and return down through the hatch.
You launch off your famous Geode Strike!
4,4,6*5. The initial impact sends spiders flying!
5,1,4,5. The crystal shards splatter even more of them!

You head back down the hatch, you don't think it did much to thin the swarm.

Perform trip-stab combo.
Get to work on hacking away at the baddy.
Keep up that endless charge!
((Maribelle has used her Lead the Charge Power for this fight.))
Gnat swings his tail at the enemy! 4,5,5 Vs. 1,5,4. You knock him to the ground!
Dave swings his cutlass at the fallen foe! 6*2,5,1,4. 2 Damage!
Maribelle impales the opponent! 3,1,5,2 1 Damage!
He dies!

Return up, starting a new fight.

Geode Strike again.

Rinse and repeat.
