The game is currently available as a DRM free direct download and on Steam. It's Windows only right now, but Mac and Linux ports are planned. It costs $10 for the basic edition, and is worth every cent in most people's experience.

The following links say much more about the game than I'd be able to:
I'm usually not the person that pre-orders from a completely inexperienced developer or who buys "exclusive" editions of games, but Gunpoint is the exception. If my word isn't good enough, listen to any of the other unanimous praise.

I think I'm going to be getting this one. It's always exciting when a new Indie game comes out, especially when it's priced at just $9. While that's not too promising on how much game there will be, there's going to be a level editor, so the variety of potential levels is fairly large. I'm a little skeptical about whether the game play will be worth playing all those levels, though. There's only so much you can do with a puzzle-based platformer, and none of the levels look particularly large up to this point.

It definitely looks like good fun, though.


Also, it's coming out on the third, but the sale is good until the 10th (Monday) so you'll still have plenty of time to think about it. If I do wind up getting it, I'll try to have a video of some game play and commentary up by Friday (The 7th) so folks can have a better idea of what to expect from it.

The game has 44 achievements on Steam, and only one (Completing the game) is the standard "Congratulations! You've done x y times!" or "You've progressed partially through the campaign, don't you feel special!" type.

I recall that some companies make those achievements just to see how far some players get into their games. I can't remember which game it was, but someone made an achievement for finishing the first mission... and only 80% or so of those who purchased the game actually completed it. Details are hazy, though.

Of course, I still have maybe half a dozen games I've gotten through humble bundles/incredibly good sales that I haven't even installed, yet, so I'm definitely guilty of doing the same thing. It's interesting see how far the majority of people get in a game and what people tend to accomplish, and to that end I think achievements are enlightening enough to be worthwhile.

Just don't treat them like a check list and you'll be fine.

The Binding of Isaac: Less than 70% got through the first level.
37.1% went through a full run of the game.
4.4% completed the game without the DLC, 1.3% with.

The Call of Duty games' first achievement achievement is between 70 and 85%.

Half-Life 2's stats are terrible, but that's included in a bunch of bundles so it doesn't really count.

It's basically this. Looking at Fallout: New Vegas, 93.5% of players managed to successfully make a character. However, only 55% managed to walk two buildings over and finish the first quest. By this logic, 99% of a game's budget should be in the intro, and everything after 10 minutes in should be a flip-book drawn on post-it notes.

OP: I'm kinda wondering how variable the level designer is. Seems like squares would be boring after a while.

I got into the beta, and I can guarantee that the game is awesome, and the writing is absolutely hilarious. Richard Conway, hat-fancier extraordinaire.

Well, I just finished the final mission of the demo as a Lightning Fast Gentleman Ghost Ninja by the skin of my teeth. It took me quite a few tries to get the speed right, and even then I would have missed out on earning Lightning if I'd taken just a second longer.

(For those who haven't played, that means beating the fastest time record, not hurting any guards, not being SEEN by any guards, and making no noise whatsoever.)

A game hasn't inspired me to go for a perfect clear like that in quite a while. I'm totally buying it when it comes out.

It's not terribly enjoyable with a touchpad, but I'll definitely be playing it through once I get a mouse.

Played the demo, had some fun. Been keeping watch on this game for a good while.

So far, I'm not disappointed. Once I get a really good idea of the level constructions, I think I'll be having quite a bit of fun with the level editor.

I really liked the demo - smart framing of it and I love the little banter about the 'Buy This Game' button after the demo content is done. Probably will pick up soon
