Note: This post was ninjad by the update

As strange as it may sound, it appears that religion might be the solution of our problems. The elves have great respect for it, and if we manage to assimilate their belief into ours, they might follow us more meekly.

A way to solve the protests here might be to relocate problem makers. Sadly, that means they go on making problems elsewhere. I dunno if we want to get a group of troublemaking elves.

This is a note for later

We weren't given a tattoo to sit around doing nothing, forward! Though if we can approach the enemy through cover we  might as well do that.

I'm assuming we don't have cover, since we are in the middle of the road after all...

Spoiler: OOC-Talk and Decision (click to show/hide)

Grasping your axe you isse your plan into a quite simple and easy word. "Chaaarge!"
Your men comply, and soon you have passed Rakver who seems to evaluate the situation. Wich seems to work out for the better, because another small hail of arrows is going for him, but he dodges his mount out of the way easily.

You make it halfway up the slope, until you see something very distressing - they have prepared a log and are about to push it down - luckily by being in the shade of the slope you see it early enough to fall back, giving the same command to your companions. They show themselves to be skilled in taking orders, and do as you ordered immediately - all three of you are able to escape the rolling mayhem. The Grand Raider seemingly has only spread his men out, you guess he wants to keep on evading. Taking a carefull look, you see that your ambushers have another log at the ready,  but judging by the way they hold their bows you are quite sure that they are still aiming for the other five.

Charging the slope again, you tell your men that there will be another log coming, but they just gesture to the side. Taking a quick look you see that the hill is slanting towards there, and moments later you are on top of it. You now see the five elves clearly, as they fire yet another missing volley towards the raider. They also see you now, and you have the honour of their full attention. Loosing their arrows before your trio is able to reach them, they fail to hit you but get the other two. One of them falls off, but his wolf just carries on, leading the charge after a breath.

He takes the first elf by surprise, who is somehow able to block with his arm, resulting in a cracking sound. Arriving by the next elf, you cut him deeply with your axe - he won't stand up that soon. The other rider misses his goal, and three of the remaining elves draw the swords at their sides.

Meanwhile the wolf just rips through the arm and the elf is too shocked as to defend the follow-up to his jugular. Turning your mount around you charge at the nearest elf, but he is somehow able to block your strike. The other rider is acosted by a lousy sword-swing wich he just doges by shifting in his saddle, and retalitates with a well-aimed attack thou - one elf less. One of the other elves reaches you, but he is clearly no swordsman, with his strike failing to penetrate your armour.

The lone wolf immediatly lounges at one of the last two elves - the one who blocked your strike previously - but is kept in check by the elf's sword. When your own opponent tries to strike you again he leaves his defenses wipe open, enabling you to just cut through his neck.

Meanwhile having fallen back to growling and biding its time, the wolf has his eyes clearly fixated on the elven sword in front of it - the wielder of it unable or unwilling to get close enough to strike the beast. While he sees your approach, he is unable to react to the other rider and is cut short through his back.

Moments later Rakver and his men arrive, but there is not much left to do for them. The arrow who caused your man to fall off has lodged itself deep in his guts, and he bleeds out minutes after the fight is over. Your other man was only struck in his tigh, but he lost a good amount of blood and will need some very good rest. The Grand Raider meanwhile goes on to interrogate the two surviving elves and after having talked with them beheads them on the spot. Both of your men are fastened to their wolves and you continue the journey in a hurry, fearing that this might not have been all of them.

In the evening Rakver requests your presence, and after a short walk you are a good ways from the camp. The whole matter suits you just fine, as you are somewhat amiss as to why he did not intervene in any way, leaving you to do the fighting. His bewildered facial expression as you mention this cuts you short thou, and soon enough he has explained why.

You were pretty much out of the reach of their arrows when on the street - the elves seemingly got startled when the wolves acted up, and just tried their luck. He goes on that when you started your charge, he thought you to have a plan, like cutting of their retreat by advancing around them - but with you just charging straight at them, he was even forced to stay in the vicinity longer as it seemed clear to him that he was their true target. He concludes that - while one may never know how fate turns out - there would have been ample ways to get those five wich would not have included such odds, and that your man could still be alive. From someone of your appearant wit he would really have expected better.

Two days later you arrive at the capitol of Is'vell, where you put one of your men up with a healer, and the other with a shaman to be cremated. You also notice that the streets here hold a good amount of orcs, not surprising as the homelands are only three days away.

After the initial talk, the Grand Raider suggest heavily that you should learn some group tactics, as to prevent such plans of yours in the future. You have enough time to ponder the matter on the way to the gathering, and dont fail to see his point. You set up your tent next to Rakver, as he is still very amiable company and are now able to set any plans pertaining to here in motion. You also took 20 silver with you, but spent 5 of it on cremating and care for the respective two of your men.

It is two days before The Council will gather, but the matches would start tomorrow. What are your plans?

Oh well, that happens when the descriptions are too ambigious, I guess. Lesson learned +1 - I just might include a crude map in the future, depending on the situation. Else, we'll have to see how Surkoz reacts, but that is not due for some posts. No use crying over spilt blood, or so the orcs say.

There is actually some stuff that we could do, wich the attentive reader ought to know. ;) We also could just wander around for some flair, put the silver to use or aquaint ourselves with important personel - y'know, like our two unknown neighbours or such. Tribute won't be due till the first Council day, as the higher ranks want to take a look at the presents - their worth being an indicator of just how loyal the guys are to the chief. Looking out for possible alliances and whatnot.

Hrmmm, cavalry against archers, advancing quickly seemed the right thing. A bit more thought that they would have been prepared for such things would have been advisable, but really, we lost our companion to their final volley before we met them, no real way to stop their final volley short of complete surprise or a good distraction and very good timing... I don't really see how it could have gone better, but there are lots of ways that it could have gone worse due to our actions, we did get lucky...

I am not really inclined to fight in the tournament, our aggressive style is prone to injuries and we are not an exceptional warrior. I would rather just watch the tournament and maybe participate next time...

Make certain that our companions get the best treatment for their injuries available...

I think that worked out fine in terms of the information you gave us. Our orc was unskilled in tactics and didn't notice the important information that might have prevented the poor and on the hoof decision.

We do have a few things we need to do.
Consult a Shaman who wouldn't have trouble with the elves' temple.
A little trading.
Some talks with various orcs about joining our region, and maybe a few skirmishers looking to throw in with someone.

I alsi think that joining the fights is a good idea. Not very much is expected of us so we can use the opportunity to learn. Also, if we do it right we might be able to help Rakver out by chopping the orcs who are trying to fight him.

But then I do like taking risks.

Spoiler: OOC-Talk and Decision (click to show/hide)

Seeing as it would be a fitting moment to do so, you search for the area in wich the shamans reside. You get a bit lost on the way, but that gives you a chance to see more of the gathering - or rather the bustling market that surrounds it. There is a surpsrising amount of non-orcs abound, who peddle their specific wares - or sometimes are the wares themselves. Most of the slaves are obviously elves at the moment, with prices ranging from 10 to 50 silver, depending on their age and skills. Deciding that you really have enough unwilling personel, you quickly leave that area. You also notice that the beast-market is not far off, where some magical beasts attract much attention - the price of most quite out of your league, even considering the coffers in your province. The weapons and armours on display are almost as varied as the food, but as nothing really catches your attention you walk on.

Soon enough you are in the shamans area, with exotic wares, sacrificial offerings and charms abound. Inquiring into the whereabouts of some higher Wuruzov shamans, you are informed that they are planning some rituals that are held towards the end of the gathering and thus quite a bunch of the elders should be present. A right assumption and after you humbly have waited for them to finish their official buisness, a good part of them hears you out. They are undoubtly interested in your story, but with differing views - while there is little doubt that the place ought to have some meaning, some find the notion blasphemous, others think the place would be fit for worshipp on our side, and quite a few think the tower should be razed as it would be an affront to Wuruzov. The last side seems to have the most supporters, but an envoy will be sent some time after the festival, to make sure of the places nature.

Returning to your tent, you soon are invited by Rakvar to a little evening chat. He asks you which discipline you would join, and gives you the tip to cover your tattoo with some kind of paint - as all do by now to either not be picked off if they have too much ink, or the same if they have none. You also untertain the short thought of somehow helping your somewhat-benefactor, but not only would this be most disgracefull, he is also competing in the spearthrowing contest. Wishing to further his troops into that direction, he tells you to have extensively trained. You inquire into his daily training and are not really surprised to hear that it is up to 10 hours, if he can spare the time - wich is quite rare since he took over his possessions, he admits a bit crestfallen. You also gather from him that there are good recruits to be found there - just make sure you try to do so after the paint has come off. Evidently he almost tried to hire someone with 5 honourings, back when he still had only 2.

You are undecided, but after sleeping into the next day, you decide that it would be better to watch, as you don't really feel ready to participate. The matches are quite hotblooded, but as there are rules - or rather, penaleties - against serious attacks, not too much happens. Some broken ribs and some split-open skin with the rare broken limb is the most you get to see. You also take time to watch Rakvar, but while he is doing quite well, he is still among the last of his batch to go. He is quite diasppointed thou that you did not join the fray, but seems to accept that you still dont feel quite ready for it. Both of you spend much of this day at the fighting grounds, especially because his four companions are participating. One of his men even cleares the first round, but falls one place short of winning the second. He also helps you to seed out some possible candidates, and at the end of the day you have found five agreeable additions to your troops.

At first you have some troubles getting to sleep, as your ink will allow you to listen to The Council - and according to your neighbour they will be interested into the happenings in your province as well. While it is clear that you have handled the elves satisfactory, this also would be a chance to make the possibilities in your province seem better than they really are. If advertising by speaking to the council will not yield results, nothing will - most of what is spoken there will reach the outside in some form at some point in the following week. You are not sure if the possible risks would be worth it, but decide to sleep over it anway.

The Council gathers today - are there any matters of note, and how will you portray yourself and your province?

Let's go for just, balanced and mostly diplomatic ruler, residing over a rather poor, but fairly calm province with room for expansions, and the seeds for a lasting peace.

Quite a bit of truth in it.
