Hamlet of Blotlives. What a terrible place, hardened depressed villagers scratching out an existence while fending off vampire attacks.
I'm going to take up adventuring like my cousin Kesp Cleanpants. He went missing a few months back.
My uncle told me of some sort of mission to get to the Bloodspire. Me - I am a bit scrawny for adventuring.
I need to bulk up and learn to swim if I am going to make it.
I visit my uncle's house and nick some prickle berries and head to river.
Swam all day under bridge. It's exhausting but I feel my lungs expanding. I feel fitter already!
Sleep in local cooks house. I eat some berries, up at dawn!
21st Malachite
More swimming today. I am starting to feel tough and resilient!
Still weak though - need to do some wrestling practice.
Spend all day swimming, and feel legendary!
22nd Malachite
I need a backpack, all I have is this alpace wool sack.
The local keep is not too far to the east, but nobody has heard from them in a while.
Figure it would be a good place to start, maybe they have some soldiers I could learn from, and some spare equipment.
I gather my things including my rusty copper spear, and start travelling and sneaking - I don't want to attract the attention of the local dingos or cheetahs!
I spot a weasel who hasn't noticed me creeping up behind him. I pounce on him and wrestle for hours until I choke it to death.
He's too scrawny to get any meat from. There's a town not too far from here - Heatsaved it is called. I sleep in an abandoned shack.
23rd Malachite
The local Pump Operator tells me of the surroundings. The capital is to the northeast. I've heard of it but never been.
Elves live there! Never met an elf, but I have heard that cheetahs and dingos leave them mostly alone.
I set off, heading south east to the keep. I strangle another weasel, a few bruises but my muscles are starting to grow.
Arrive at fort Insighttested in the late afternoon and find it deserted. No people, and no equipment. Damn.
The only residents are a rattlesnake and a weasel.
I get some practice spear strikes on them.
Chopped rattlesnake liver for dinner, and make camp for the night.
24th Malachite
Sleep overnight in the abandoned fortress. Pull out my map and decide to head to the next nearest fort on the way to the capital, to the north.
Breakfast of rattlesnake meat and blood. Mmm.
Arrive back in Heatsaved at noon, and stumble into a house with a dead guy in it on the floor. Looks like he died of old age.
I like the look of his breastplate, and his friends don't seem to mind as I rifle through his corpse.
I'm now the owner of an iron helm, copper breastplate and a rather natty dingo leather cloak.
After some rattlesnake meat, I head north to the fortress, sneaking all the way. Not looking where I am going, I fall in to a river and get into a fight with some fish.
I am glad I spent all that time learning to swim. The milkfish bites deep gashes in my feet, but I emerge victorius, and butcher him for his delicious meat.
I arrive at the fortress and there's a bloody cheetah outside the gate, a female. It doesn't spot me. I leap at it from the shadows!
I stuggle in combat with the cheetah for some hours, striking at it with my spear.
I eventually ram my spear through it's skull and collapse, exhausted. Cheetah meat for dinner will be a nice change though!
Depressingly, the fortress is deserted apart from wild boars who run away skittishly from my approach.
I manage to find some bronze gauntlets, a sturdy copper hammer and an iron buckler.
As I leave the keep, I'm ambushed by another cheetah - perhaps the mate of the one I butchered.
We wrestle for a bit before I cave his head in with warhammer. This fighting is certainly helping me to put on some muscle. I feel mighty!
My feet starting to hurt from being bitten by a milkfish, and I worry about infection.
I sleep in the 2nd abandoned fort after practising hammer strikes on some of the runtier wild boars.
25th Malachite
After eating my fill of cheetah blood and wild boar meat, I travel roughly north, heading towards a third keep on the road to the capital.
Unsurprisingly, it's also abandoned. The world is getting to be a desolate place, and every step I go I realise that getting to the Bloodspire is my own hope.
Entering the fort, I disturb a flock of ravens. I swat at them with my hammer until they are no longer a threat. My toenails throb, and my feet look infected.
Sleep overnight in safert of the keep. Milkfish and rattlesnake blood for supper.
26th Malachite
I equip an iron shield and iron breastplate scavenged from the third fort and get rid of copper one, which is too heavy.
I head onwards north east towards the capital and I spot 4th fort on the horizon.
Wrestle some weasels on the way. Feel I am getting the hang of this adventuring. The wrestling has improved my strength and agility.
The scars on my feet are itchy and weeping.
Arrive at fort by nightfall. I am betting money on it being abandoned, and fall asleep just inside the entrance.
27th Malachite
Well, I have survived a week of adventuring! Better than many of my friends in Blotlives could have.
I have killed lots of animals and learned from the experiences. I am an accomplished wrestler now. I am worried about my feet though. Hope that wont turn out serious.
Open door into the inside courtyard at dawn and immediately set upon by a pack of dingoes.
There are about eight of them and I panic. Backing into the entrance I am soon surrounded by snapping mouths!
My practising has paid off. I smack the dingoes around with my hammer until all eight lie unmoving. I butcher them with my copper knife. I won't go hungry for a while.
My limbs are criss-crossed with scratches and are heavily bruised. My nose is a broken mess.
Apart from dingoes, the fort is again deserted, but for a pleasant change it has plenty of armour.
I equip a dingo leather hood, copper boots, and iron chain leggings.
I find a nice iron scimitar, which I will need to practice with. It's sharp edges will be useful for lopping off limbs and heads!
I finally have a backpack to store all my dingo meat.
I leave the fort and head onwards to the capital. There are weasels everywhere and I stop to wrestle. I am getting more confident.
I feel more at ease with my shield and can move more freely in armour.
I arrive at a town on the outskirts of the capital, and decide to stay the night.
28th Malachite
This is an eerie place. Some very strange looking people. I wander around town.
I visit a gem settler and am disturbed to see he is wearing human tooth jewellry. He is a vampire! I cry out and he does not deny it.
While he is boasting of his kills, I leap at him.
It may be a lucky strike, but my copper hammer sinks into his skull and tears the brain!
The local farmer is ecstatic and lets me know of other night creatures nearby. Tod Dwelledrussett is apparently a vampire.
The farmer neglects to mention he is a crossbowman.
My hours of weasel-wrestling come to the fore as I dodge the iron bolts and start breaking his bones with my warhammer, before caving in his skull.
I take his macabre adornments as proof.
After informing the local militia of my second kill, I am alerted to the presence of two caves just out of town, rumored to be the resting places of vampires!
Ilre Godlyboyish the vampire is in the first cave and is weak compared to the others I have fought. She dies easily.
Ana Lightfragrance puts up more of a fight, but is no match for me. Four vampires I have sent to the underworld this day! Truly this town crawls with filth...
I report my success and the local cheesemaker grins. My next task is in the city itself, the elf vampire leatherworker! The first elf I meet will be a night creature.
He will suffer the same fate as the others I have struck down today.
I head east from the suburbs into the main town and to find the leather shop.
The capital is little more than a ruin. Empty ransacked shops scatter the dusty streets. The place is a maze, and finding this dastardly elf may be tricky.
I find an abandoned shop and make my bed for the night, snacking on dingo meat before bed.
