Finally, someone put into words the Question that I have been struggling with my entire life. I simply cannot bear to wait 70 days and knights to find out the answer, please reduce the sentence.
I bet the answer is 42.
This one time I gave my captain of the guard an iron whip, then he killed over 30 dwarves and caused a tantrum spiral. Then a one handed woodcutter severed his head with an axe. the woodcutter was then elected mayor, even though there were only 3 dwarves left in the fort. Then a goblin siege invaded, and my badass hammer lord killed them all. He lost a leg though.
The hammer lord was badass. He was the last survivor of the original 7. He fought with a copper hammer, which he named The Wild Noble. One time, a giant cave spider invaded the fort and killed a bunch of people. He fought the giant cave spider with his hammer and the giant cave spider bit him on the chest and injected its poison. He smashed its brain then slept off the poison and survived.
That fort got it's save corruptred, and was mad and angry after that.

Today I found adamantium for the first time and mined it greedily. I only had to channel down one square, by one Z-level, for (spoiler?) massive amounts of fun to emerge and kill everyone pretty much immediately. Heavenmined is gone, and instead of being annoyed to start over, I'm excited to try it again. What strange magic is this?

I've just tried to breach three-level aquifier for four embarks. Every singe of them eneded with FUN, usually because miners drowned while digging channel.

Was playing a large peaceful-minded fortress without a militia, traps or anything useful hehehe, and it was year 10 when suddenly a necromancer showed up out of the blue and raised chaos on my packed-up burial area. All the citizens were screaming and tantruming. Dorfs died left and right. All got zombified. Fortress lost. FUN!

Now playing on a very small fortress with a militia in full swing, having a good time tightening everything in such a tiny space. Things get done in a second. The FPS speed is a plus! Random thieves that get spotted by the loyal war dogs restrained by the entrance get killed by the gigantic group of in-training militia dwarves Also constructing a red looking tower out of clay just for fun. Digging deeper by the second. Fun, Fun, always FUN!

My fun is more mundane than some here.  But its fun FUN nonetheless.

My forts tend to be !!!FUN!!!, because things like dragons and digging too deep tend to light everyone on fire. My last fort ended when a dwarf randomly pulled the lever that kept some [monsters from the depths] sealed in the old mine shaft, and they started killing everyone. In my current fort, most of my migrants come mentally scarred from the old one, and a few have showed up on fire. DF is very fun.

It all depends on where you settled too I guess. Evil lands are all the times something dies, cavern Forts could have a crundle-load of fun...

the moment i realized what the heck was going on was when i had fun. even in my starting forts of all my dwarves dieing. it really reminded me about the Sims games..

Before I realized what the different biome descriptions really meant, I embarked on a really awesome site with lava and a river and trees and a boatload of ore.  It was "joyous wilds" and seemed fine except for one corner, which was pink instead of blue.

Everyone had fun when the skeletal unicorns showed up at the beginning of the first summer.
So. Much. Fun.

What they don't tell you when they say "losing is fun" is the fact that surviving and thriving becomes somewhat monotonous.

But, you can always fix that by digging deeper.

cavern Forts could have a crundle-load of fun...

This, but make it a (skyway?) fort in the middle of the stalagmites. Then name it avernum, and begin collecting fluffy wambler corpses. See how many you can collect before a FB slays everyone.

I once had a giant ice spider FB come in, murder my military with webs, and then the rest of my fort. Loads of fun.
