I started a run with just the basic rules yesterday. I just unlocked the fire job and it is geomancer which I havent used before. So how useful is the geomancer in the gba release? I've understood that it was rather useless because of the random attacks. My other jobs are black mage and time mage.

Geomancer is badish. It maxes out its jobs incredibly fast, but has no useful abilities to add on to itself like almost any other job. Terrain is rather decent as an add on to almost any other class to get a decent spammable attack, especially for other mages, but otherwise there isn't much to it. Slap black or time magic on it, and most of the time you'll be using those in boss fights. One thing to note is that in the exdeath battle, you can only get wind slash, which is boosted by air Lancet being equipped. Its a decent thing to spam if you're saving mp for other uses.

Alright, I'll keep that in mind. Thanks :)

Gaia is weird. It chooses which ability is casts by picking a random value between 0 and user's level. Then, based on what it rolls, it chooses a different skill. 0-10 gets spell 1, 11-20 spell 2, 21-50 spell 3, and 51-99 spell 4. Generally speaking, spell 4 will set opponent's health to single digits but only if they aren't flagged as heavy like most bosses are, spell 3 does heavy damage, most often 75% of current hp, again missing if they're heavy. 2 is usually solid damage, and 1 is weaker damage.

As far as equipment goes, bells suck. Full stop, just use knives.

Blue Mage, Summoner, Bard, and Chemist.

Four of the most BAMF classes in FFV?

If that's your roll, you got pretty lucky. You should have 0 problems completing the game, as well as getting triple threat.

Yeah, that's pretty much a guaranteed win even if you're as terrible at FF games as I am.

I just want to say that Vampire/Suck Blood is ridiculous. It basically fully heals you whenever you use it and it's the first or second blue magic you can get. It basically carried me through every boss so far.

Yeah, drain effects in general are really strong. Stock up on hella turtle shells when you're in the Karnak area, when you get your Chemist you get a mix called drain kiss which is godlike. It's turtle shell + maiden kiss.

One interesting observation about your team, you somehow got every job that has to go out of its way to "collect" skills (that you could have). Make sure to have a guide open to check for what you can get at various areas. This one has a really good rundown at the beginning of every area. This site has a lot of the same content, but is formatted differently.

Good? Decent? Bad? So far it seems good

Pretty solid. You could !GilToss your way through the game and have no problems, but if you absolutely want to shitstomp, if you have the patience, grind 2 or 3 characters to max rank on Red Mage for dualcast, then give them !Black 5 or 6 and dualcast an elemental boosted -Aga

Or, on the note of dualcasting, that's a party that can fairly handily do Fork Tower, so you could dualcast Flare. :P

Apparently Vampire is a bit glitched in the GBA version of the game. It's supposed to deal/heal half of (Max HP - Current HP), not all of it. That's how it works in the original SNES version of the game.

...

Mind you, even when it's nerfed like that it's still one of the best Blue Magics in the game. Especially early on, when you don't have any other ways of efficiently healing your party. Vampire has definitely saved my ass against more than one boss.

Vampire can also be cast on the user to heal. That is, BluM Bartz can cast it on himself, and get healed.

So they can. Huh. But casting it on enemies also deals damage so... That function of it is mostly useful in a few fringe cases, I suppose. Like if you're up against a bunch of undead or something, where you'll get hurt instead if you tried to Vampire them.
