Signed up for an upgrade run. Will be interesting. Those wind crystal jobs need some serious investment before you can permanently leave them, unless you get lucky and get blue mage.

I signed up again this year, just to give it another chance.

Last time I ended up with White Mage, Red Mage, Bard and Dancer which... wasn't much fun. The Red Mage and White Mage had good synergy and plenty of healing. The Bard was a good buffer. Dancer had Sword Dance but it turned out to not be as great as I thought it would be. Basically I ended up with difficulties in both tanking hits and dealing damage (unless undead were involved, in which case Double Casting White Magic and Requiem all day every day). So fights eventually devolved into me spamming Love Song to not die horribly while I slowly grinded enemies down with Dance and Level 2 Black Magic because I couldn't see any alternatives. It was not the most fun or most engaging strategy in the world and I pretty much quit the run shortly after getting to the Dark World.

Hopefully I get better luck this year. Fingers crossed...

Too bad, USEC, if you had stuck with it you would've gotten Holy to dualcast, the best offensive strategy in the game short of rapidfire-spellblade-dual wield.  :P

That was a pretty potent party, though perhaps hard to see. Bard is the second best buffer, and boss battles should see you literally just buffing up and then tearing em apart. Three people singing speed song is hilariously overpowered, and you basically start taking turns instantly. Then level and magic songs, while your white mage heals. Probably wouldn't have needed much grinding, and the undersea trench is a great place to do what you need as a bard.

Yeah I can see world 2 sucking hard, but a bit of luck with Swords Dance could've carried you, or just dumping stacks of cash on rods and breaking them to get through hard bosses. Once you got through Fork Tower you'd have the aforementioned holy dualcast and be set for the run.

World 2 is almost always the hardest part. Several tough bosses but no end game cheese yet. Its always been a slog for my parties to get through, unless I'm given something easy like samurai.

Yeah. Double Casting Holy would have been amazing if I managed to get to it. The problem is that Swords Dance was not carrying me far enough so the slog became too much and I quit. I'll keep the breaking rods strategy in mind for this year, in case I end up in a similar situation. Though chances are I'll end up with a party-layout that can thrash everything up to the final boss. :v

By the endgame, there are very few classes that are "bad". Monk is one, due to the lack of scaling. Geomancer is another, though interestingly you can slap an air lancet on them for the last fight and have some decent hit all damage output. Thief is somewhat poor, but chicken knife and capture are a wonderful pair with the highest AGI in the game. Other then that, pretty much everyone has something very useful to contribute. Oh, and red mage. Red mage by itself is pretty poor. Any other mage benefits immensely by its presence though. Especially time mages.

So just thought I should post in thread that I will be donating $10 for every Bay12Member that completes their first run (to a max of 200$), so sign up there and post here that you signed up so I can keep track of you.

To note: Every job is capable of soloing the game, so don't believe that getting a few bad jobs will prevent you from winning the game. Especially if you draw one of the three "outstanding" jobs (i.e. Magic Knight, Blue Mage, and Chemist) or one of the four "great" jobs (Black Mage, Samurai, Ninja, Beastmaster)

Solo Berzerker is actually unable to finish the game, even with every single skill in the game available for the passive slot, without mods. It can't kill Neo Exdeath's second form, even with perfect luck. Not being able to magic lamp Odin to kill the 4th part really cripples it. Sullla, the guy who did every one of the solo runs, spent over a year trying to do solo zerker, and there was no conceivable way to do Neo Exdeath, nor for that matter Necrophobe to make actually trying to do the big guy feasible.

Sulla did report that someone apparently managed to get that stupid luck, but yeah, Solo Zerker kindof is stuck there. Lack of use items limits healing significantly in that battle, and needing the RNG to absorb all damage via the shield makes it essentially impossible.

Technically correct, which I suppose is the best kind of correct. A guy had 12 different copies of ZSNES running a macro to automatically go through the fight and record the outcome, and after a few weeks went back and found one that had the "The End" screen. It was using the magic stat underflow bug to make Gaia hammer quakes do 5k+, and then the guy had to get 11 procs of that, at 25% per turn. 1 outcome of 11d4, already pushing it, but then to survive long enough to get 11 turns he had to have absurd luck with evades which is hard to quantify exactly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy4BHrohdJg

EDIT: On an unrelated note, I just saw that Bulborbish evaluated Samurai as "great". Samurai might be the single easiest class you can get. Samurai is pretty much just a won run, because Gil Toss is so insanely good. The game ends once you get the Earth jobs.

Registered and never completed a run. Or the game at all, for that matter.

So, the Fiesta is up and well, I rolled Mystic Knight, BERSERKER, BERSERKER, BERSERKER. So uh, guess I'll have extra time this run.
