I've buggered half my acquitances about this so heck, why not do it here as well.

On the bright side, after all that sexual activity, you'll have no trouble keeping both heads down, which is what you should do.

... any particular reason why I should do that?

Without being there and knowing the specific conditions at your institution, I couldn't say precisely. However, I do know that accusing people of breaking the law is a great way to cause friction, especially when there are laws being broken. Laws like this usually are narrow in scope of penalties, the kind that these guys can brush off, whereas petty vengeance has as broad a scope as the mind of the plotter. If your superiors are successful doctors, I'm inclined to think their minds are up to the task of going tit-for-tat with an underling in ways that you might not have considered. Bringing law into the matter, particularly if you are unambiguously right, will cause problems. Win the battle, lose the war.

Ask yourself why no one else has done this. If the answer is "someone else has done this" then proceed; otherwise you should continue to pause long and hard.

My suggestion: Start with discrete inquiries at either Human Resources or the higher ups. If you can actually get the matter looked into or resolved without creating a public scene, things will be easier for everyone.

Otherwise, fuck it, give em hell. Life's too short to spend it in undue misery and the law is on your side for a reason. I have zero patience for bullies, and no one else should, either.

yeah, that's my intention. Try to solve it in a more peaceful setting, then go progressively more aggressive if I get denied. Likely I wont be, anyway. Anyways, thanks for the audience and support. I kind of needed to vent.

YOLO is not generally considered career advice after expensive schooling. It's a given on many career paths that you're going to be the one working unrecorded over-time if you're in the running for advancement. Medical internship is merely an infamous extreme.

The interesting thing is his senior resident, who has been there longer and suffered more, is quiet. More craven, or more politically attuned? Time will tell.

At any rate, no harm in going through proper channels, but beware the blowback on throwing stink-bombs.

They're about the only non-surgical department in the hospital to do this, for the record. Every other one respects resident shifts.

There was an incident two years in another dept, when a simmilar case was whistle blown. It didn't go far beyond cross-eyed looks at the involved resident from some of his superiors for a while. And of course, 5 years ago this did not occur at my own dept - it's a relatively recent "innovation".

As for petty mischief to harass inferiors... the involved facultatives already friggin do that by default.

Yeah, don't know the particulars, but it sounds less imposing a situation upon each new reveal. Just don't go full YOLO.

Yeah, I dont want to reveal too much in order to keep a semblance of anonimity (or rather, to prevent a casual search engine to unveal it). This kind of behavior is relatively frequent overall (elsewhere this side of the frontier), but it's dying out, and so far every time it has gotten to the courts it has been settled with victory and hefty cash indemnizations (not that I want to get there. I'd rather win this battle without overly antagonizing my boss. I chose the slot here in order to work with the man, after all. But I can't very well do that if I get drowned in shift browning from day #1).

Besides, this last year's evaluation was outstanding, even without the rating of the people at internal medicine, with whom I've worked very well and very hard for months. They'd be silly to go to war over this when I can solve so much of their workload by sticking to what I actually signed.

Certainly don't give out details or anything. I honestly wouldn't be as gung-ho about it if it weren't that this involves healthcare and, by extension, people's well-being. Working overtired people who are even partially in charge of others' care is at best counterproductive and at worst can lead to incidents that damage patients, the hospital, and the system at large. The line should be drawn (though as politically as feasible and possible).

"Partially" is a relative term. It's not infrequent for residents to bear responsabilities to bear many tasks without any supervision whatsoever. Sometimes it's reasonable (after all, we're supposed to gradually be more and more independent - though some are faster than others, as you might imagine. I've never been one to shun responsability, myself. Quite the contrary). but all too often it's because some people find it a great idea to treat residents as a caste of slaves to do their jobs while they slack off

Nice! Hope things get better, at least a bit, from now on.
