Regular Show doesn't impress me much. Every episode is basically the same, just a small variation on one of a handful of themes recycled over and over again. (Oh my god! The video game came alive! And then we were sucked into another dimension for a while! How could we possibly have anticipated that there would be drastic consequences for our laziness!) And the characters remind me of all the teenagers and young adults who irritate me daily.
I don't live in the US and don't have TV, so I was introduced to Adventure Time by seeing it mentioned on Pendleton Ward's twitter (I've read his comics for ages) and seeing an episode online. I fell in love with it immediately, and quickly discovered how much more amazing it was under certain influences which needn't be named.
Shortly after watching the episode "Death in Bloom" (where they visit the underworld and dorky skeletons try to eat their skin) I was informed that it is meant to be a children's show. At first I didn't believe it. Is this really intended for children? I knew it was on Cartoon Network, but I had assumed from the start that it was one of the Adult Swim shows, like 12 oz Mouse (which is still dear to my heart all these years later). I don't think children could possibly enjoy this show in the way adults can. If this is what kids are watching now, so many years before their inevitable introduction to drugs, I can't imagine what the next generation of adults is going to be like once they reach my age... How on earth would your brain develop with that kind of stimulus being fed into it? Maybe one day actual drugs won't be necessary... Everyone's brains will be wired into a permanent acid trip from years of watching these kinds of cartoons...
Anyway, yaayyyyy Adventure Time!
