My fiancée just informed me that I still had a little bit of birthday money to spend from her, so I just took the tumble with this. Loved Payday and love some of the features they've put into this - so it's now downloading!

So, what's the official consensus, is it less L4D-y? or is it just Payday 2.0 (not a bad thing)?

Anyone want access to the beta? I have one key to share. First one to PM me an email address will get it. Please make sure you can run it before requesting it. I will strike this once it has been given away.

I'm thinking of getting it although the paid beta is a little steep for me. But are you basically required to play it with 3 friends or can you get one or two guys to join you to make it worthwhile?

People from the internets can join your crew on a drop in/drop out basis (unless you lock your game) and, failing that, the AI takes over.

It's all very good if you have a decent crew, though the game is seriously difficult to complete without firing shots. Me and Scriptwolf were playing it for a while and we completed ONE bloody mission!

It's much more enjoyable with friends, but still nice in random. You can complete harder missions, or stealth with friends, while you generally take the basic route in random.

Even with random guys you still have people planning and trying to make sure shit does not hit the fan.

Also this does not feel like left for dead at all in the slightest and I really love the game and it's really tense and makes it feel like a simulation.

Also I do believe you can negotiate with the cops and hostages something about that popped up while me and kaje were playing but we died seconds after haha :P

The game is really hard but I think it makes it interesting the difficulty and certainly brings you back for more

after graciously receiving the Beta and playing a few missions, I must agree the L4D feel is gone, and it feels more cirminal-y, more heist-y. I like the new upgrade system, more specialization, guns, etc. It's shaping up to be excellent, I have yet to even attempt stealth though, which I'd dearly like to try.

also on another note, the guns feel much better: more realistic yes, but more of an 'oomph' to them, of course most cops seem to be better armored now too to balance this.

Damn. I have been watching some gameplay missions and I'm afraid I'll be dropping my money on this. Looks sweet.

If anyone has a second beta key I'd be willing to trade some steam items. A little strapped towards the end of the semester and can't buy it outright.

Gotta say: stealth is very hard, the pure difficulty of performing stealth without silenced weapons combined with the relative rarity by which you can make weapons silenced makes it nigh impossible after a minute or two, especially since to knock people out you have to put on your mask.

Yup. On the plus side, stealth can be quite rewarding - the jewelry shop is much faster if you stealth it, for instance.

That said: stealth is hard, it's not possible on every mission (Watchdogs and Rats both force you into combat), and you only have to screw up once to sound the alarm. Do not build a character that cannot handle a firefight if needed!

I'm curious what skills you folks are putting points in? I went Ghost because I like the increased rewards but seems technician is the most versatile.

combined technician-ghost.

Ghost for rewards and general silent-badassery and technician for trip-mines and marksmanship.
