Diamond Store is easily doable with 2 people.

It's much easier if you're willing to kill most of the civilians on the outside. It hurts in the beginning, but after Rank 30 you can waste civilians and not even flinch at the clean up costs. (Fun fact: Pro Overkill Rats will take a Lvl 0 player to Lvl 31! in one run.)

Anyways, dead civilians or not, one guy picks the lock to the security room in the alley while the other covers them. Then take the guard in the security room. One player operates the camera while the other clears the alley ways of civilians (who will walk through the alleys), and opens the back door on the stairwell. Working together, you clear out the wandering guards from the top floor, and get the manager with her key. Once you have that, and you're clear of guards, deactivate the glass alarms. Then one player rushes the store while the other gets civilians out on the street, and the guy next door in the auto shop. And then you just clean house.

Things get a little dicey when clearing guards out of the top of the store, and getting the manager. But eyes on the cameras, coordination and patience, it's very doable. Just don't hang out in the 2nd level, go in, kill something, and move the body all the way out to the security office. Then wait out of sight of the door until you're ready to strike again. Again, killing the civvies in the back lot area also helps, I've seen them trigger on things as minor as LOS and silenced SMGs.

Things that are a must for all people IMO:

-Fast Hands Ace
-Transporter Ace
-Endurance Basic
-Smooth Talker Basic

Optional but handy things for people to have:

-Cleaner Ace
-Cable Guy Ace
-Dominator Ace

Everyone should have at least 1 silenced weapon available.

If everyone is packing all those skills, you can kill/phone in or dominate your way to having complete control of the map, and enough cable ties for most if not all of the hostages. Bags get moved fast, people don't get left behind everyone can do the critical parts of the mission if needed (kill someone quietly, hide bodies, answering pagers dominate guards you can't afford to kill and answer the pager on.)

Overkill is just straight nasty now. But Very Hard will be very doable once you've leveled up, fleshed out your perks, bought the better guns and modded them to the max.

Not quite, although they are ridiculously tough. They're also not as useful as having a human, since they don't interact with things and tend to take a while to notice the police shooting at them (which is probably why they have so much health).

So, Payday 2 is 20 % off on Steam at the moment, is Payday 2 enough of an improvement to warrant 24 euros?

If you liked Payday 1 and thought it could use more customization (Like masks and gun mods) and skill trees, then you'll like Payday 2.

The only thing that they didn't improve on was making the heists quite as epic as they felt in the first one, but I get the feeling they were going for humble origins rather than epic-heist fest. Maybe it'll get more epic as the DLC comes out, but we'll see. I'm honestly hoping for a 7-day heist at that passes the White House at some point, since you can't not do that in a game set in DC.

Bain alluded to hitting the White House at one point. It was phrased as a joke, but....

I decided to get the game after reading some reviews on various journalist game site, troughout this thread and some other reviews done by users.

So, any tips for a newbie?

Oh, and the Steam name is Isdar if you want to add me.

Biggest tip would be: follow your team mates, regardless of what they do. Going against the flow in Payday 2 is a good way to get frustrated. If your team is going stealth, be stealthy. If your team is run 'n gunning, run 'n gun.

Mostly though, just pay attention. There are not a ton of ways to do each map quietly, but there's elements of stealth runs you have to be paying attention to notice. (Like who drops key cards when killed, ect...)

So the Halloween event is on.

Some things have been available since Tuesday, but the full roll out is tonight, the 31st until Nov. 4. 4 masks and 6 patterns that will only be available to earn during missions during the event. You'll get 1 random mask just for logging in for the event. Quadrupled Mask capacity. A .45 ACP that you get for free, for being part of the Payday 2 Steam Group. Some Halloween achievements. I'm not sure if there's anything actually different in the levels, haven't played yet.

The new Armored Transport DLC is out. If you preordered the game, you got it for free. Otherwise it's $6.99, which is the cheapest I've ever seen brand new DLC be for a game.  I'm downloading it now so I haven't gotten a good look at it, but it looks like there's 2 new missions (6 Locations, so the same mission can be in different places), 3 new weapons, mods, presidential masks, and mask patterns.

As far as I can tell, you don't have to buy the DLC to play the missions. If you join someone else's game you can still do the heists, you just can't start your own DLC heist or get the new items. They did this in the original Payday, and I'm glad they're continuing the practice.

Payday 2 itself is also on sale for $17.99. Not a bad time to pick it up if you're interested. It's probably not going to get cheaper for a while.

Neat. I'd kinda burned out on Payday after hitting it really hard for a month. Just not enough new maps and content to overcome the sense of repetition. We'll see how this DLC shakes up. (Although TBH, my confidence in Payday 2 is shot now that Overkill is already making noises about Payday 3. Yeesh. Whatever happened to the days when people would ride out a clear success for at least a year before going sequel-fucking-crazy?) I guess I really shouldn't be surprised though. Payday 2 plays so much like a F2P game, I sometimes forget it has no microtransactions to support new content.

I wouldn't be too worried about a Payday 3 being released any time soon - the only reference I could find to it was very, very hypothetical, existing mostly as a developer's musings on "wouldn't this be awesome?"

The new DLC is alright. There are a lot of variations on truck heists, though they feel at least somewhat similar - you're given either 3 or 4 armoured trucks to drill into and loot. Shaped Charges are discouraged, because they destroy 2 of the 9(?) loot boxes in each truck. The missions are fairly short but highly intense, with no strong defensive spots (the trucks are open on 3 sides) and lots of high-end enemies attacking in a hurry.

Haven't tried the Train heist yet. I found the train heist plans during one mission... but we wiped shortly afterwards. The one time I found the plans was on an Overkill mission, so I'm not sure if they spawn on non-Overkill attempts. Apparently it's very different, but that's all I've heard.

I enjoyed the train, but it's really rushed. You don't get the typical "take your time to get all the loot" ending, and there's a certain loot type you have to haul carefully down a flight of stairs so you don't accidentally destroy it. Even with only a few bags of the extra loot we made out with $1mil in spending cash. The train heist is easily the highest paying heist now.

The new weapons are interesting, with the new AR being a slight upgrade over the CAR rifle once you get enough mods for it. The other two weapons were relatively underwhelming and mostly useful for stealth. I did get an Obama mask, which I found funny. There's also a Bush, Richard Nickson, and Bill Clinton masks.

The new contracts are interesting, in that there's several different spots the armored trucks can be in. The maps are pretty large and the openness they have demands more teamwork than most people are used to dealing with. There's rarely a single spot you can take cover behind and comfortably shoot oncoming waves without SWAT showing up behind you, making it a lot more mobile and interesting. Several of the groups I joined up with at first ran around like heads with their chickens cut off. More so than they usually do.

Overall, not bad, but it's still not a whole lot of new content. The new DLC will have me playing a little bit more over the next week or so, but with the pre-Christmas onslaught of games looming large I doubt it'll hold my interest for long. I really hope they get a little more variety in soon.

As a side note, I'm really getting tired of achievements that require you to be wearing a certain mask. What's the point of having mask customization if I need to be wearing a certain mask to get achievements? It runs counter to the design of the game.
